White Couple is Murdered in Daytona Beach by "Male of Unknown Race," Except this Time, It Seems Like They Really Don't Know the Race:

https://news.yahoo.com/daytona-beach-neighbors-speak-stabbing-191130819.html

How many times do we see these news reports and they know full well what the race is, but don't tell us? But this time they felt the need to tell us that they don't know! That suggests that they do tell us the race of suspects when they do know. I have no idea what the policy is on that in Daytona, but I know what it is in most cities and I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if they usually omit that information just like they do everywhere else.

The "unknown race descriptor" came from black police chief Jakari Young. He knows damn well, and good there's a 90% likelihood the perp is a brotha.

OK -- so what's the point of this post then? -- is there some evidence that police withheld information specifically about race for reasons of racially sensitive political correctness?

>He knows damn well, and good there's a 90% likelihood the perp is a brotha.

I don't know about 90% in this case.

But it is no doubt true that a big majority of homicides in Daytona Beach are committed by Blacks -- Daytona Beach is almost 35% black (link), and you would expect that in a locale with such a high % of Blacks, a significant majority of homicides will be committed by Blacks.

Still, do you really expect a chief of police, let alone one who's black, to publicly speculate about the race of unknown person or persons who committed a homicide?

It's fairly well known that most, i.e. the majority (> 50%) of homicides are committed by people known to the victim -- and when you include relatives/family members in that, the % goes even higher.

From an older study (link) -- Among violent crimes, robbery was most likely and homicide was least likely to be committed by a stranger.

From 2019 FBI data (link) -- In 2019, 28.3 percent of homicide victims were killed by someone they knew other than family members (acquaintance, neighbor, friend, boyfriend, etc.), 13.0 percent were slain by family members, and 9.9 percent were killed by strangers. The relationship between murder victims and offenders was unknown in 48.9 percent of murder and nonnegligent manslaughter incidents.

Obviously, the data is incomplete: this kind supplementary info was known for not quite half (48.9%) of the reported homicides -- but assuming the rest of cases are statistically similar, only about 20% of homicides are committed by strangers.

link

Between 1980-2008, the U.S. Department of Justice found that 84% of white victims were killed by white offenders and 93% of Black victims were killed by Black offenders.

I'll take their word for it, because it's known that homicide is largely intraracial.

So given that, and despite what you see on TV and in ads, the US is still largely segregated along racial lines, meaning Whites don't generally have black friends, without knowing anything about the culprit, it's rather unlikely that a white homicide victim was killed by a Black.

I think there's plenty of data about black dysfunction, including criminal black dysfunction, without going fishing like this.

But yes, anyone who looks for news about this case now finds that fotos of an alleged 'person of interest' have been released, and he is definitely a black male: link

One story I saw referred to him as a 'transient'.

One thing to note about the link to the USA Today 'fact check' I posted (here) -- it also says this:

Likewise, the post attempts to portray a gulf in the rate of Black-on-white and white-on-Black homicide — which it lists at 81% and 2%, respectively. ... Statistics from the FBI in 2018 and 2017 contradict that claim. ... In 2018, 16% of white victims were killed by Black offenders, while 8% of Black victims were killed by white offenders. ... Similarly, in 2017, 16% of white victims were killed by Black offenders, while 9% of Black victims were killed by white offenders. ... In both years, the numbers remained within eight percentage points, a much smaller gap than the 79% alleged in the viral post.

I don't know or care what post this lady reporter is attempting to debunk, so I won't comment on the '81% and 2%' claim.

But consider the following claims from USA Today -- first for 2018:

In 2018, 16% of white victims were killed by Black offenders, while 8% of Black victims were killed by white offenders.

Also for 2017:

Similarly, in 2017, 16% of white victims were killed by Black offenders, while 9% of Black victims were killed by white offenders.

Their conclusion is obviously misleading because it ignores the concept of per capita.

In the US, Whites outnumber Blacks by approx 5:1 -- given that, if interracial homicide rates were indeed comparable, you'd expect the ratio of the % of white-on-black to the % of black-on-white homicides to be about 5 -- but it's not: in fact, it's only about 0.5 -- meaning per just this data, re interracial homicide we can roughly conclude that a White is 10x more likely to be killed by a Black than vice versa.

Of course this means that considering Blacks and Whites, interracial homicide in America is dominated by a hugely disproportionate number of black-on-white homicides.

Now, there are two possibilities:

1) This female reporter and her editors are too stupid to understand and apply the concept of per capita;

2) They do understand it, but they decided to publish a deliberately misleading article as part of their service to the largely fictitious 'narrative' about race and crime in America, including condemnation of rightwing bigots who propagate falsehoods about it.

You decide.
