Of course, a moon base isn't a new idea. But I'm most impressed by what I recall Garrett Hardin saying decades ago about manned (peopled) space exploration: It's a fantastically user-unfriendly environment.
I'm confident we won't live to see people reaching Mars. But I also wouldn't be surprised at arguments that it will never happen.

The Left (i.e., Liberal Mass Media, Academia, Democrats) was never really happy about a White man being the first Human to set foot on the Moon. That's why Neil Armstrong was largely ignored by the MSM for over 50 years to the present day. Had Neil been black the number of honors, accolades, documentaries, movies, official holidays, statues, political declarations of remembrance, school reminders, school names, songs, and blatant racial black glorification thrown in our faces, would have been non-stop, too numerous to calculate, continuous and unceasing. As it will be when the first black sets foot on the Moon.
Never mind that a White man was the first. No one in the media or academia will care or remember. The Woke powers-that-be will make sure no one mentions it. Just as the fact that any black that ever sets foot on the Moon, will have gotten there totally on the backs of White Technology, Innovation, Invention, Pioneering Spirit, Daring, and Courage, not to mention our Tax dollars paid for by our work ethic and the sweat of our labor.
Rest assured under the power of so-called Progressives, White men will never again be allowed to EVER be first, or be let into any position to be honored for their accomplishments that allows everyone else to take credit.
And if they die up there, I can assure you, White men will be brought back in. Not into future space programs, but as scapegoats to blame.
Mars awaits our Politically Correct NASA Team of Astronauts, and the black man's footprint that will be the first man on Mars. Along with the non-stop race based praise and euphoric hysteria that the Left will demand.
Note 1: Want to bet that the "Moon landing was fake" conspiracy theory, held by many blacks to deny Whites were ever there, will go right out the window when they land blackie on the Moon?
Note 2: While America plays the Affirmative Action song and Equity dance, I wouldn't be surprised if China lands the first men on Mars.....prematurely, on purpose. Knowing they won't make it back to Earth, but just so they can make the claim that they, 'Chinese Communists', were the 'First Humans to set foot on Mars'.
That is all Star Trek stuff. Every race, nationality, ethnic group, religion, language. You must have one of all kinds.
Blacks aren't supposed to like space travel, rocket ships and all that. You need to spend the money on good schools for colored kids and social programs that help the poor.
