There are currently 100 Republicans serving in the TN legislature (General Assembly), and only 32 Democrats; to say the least, that is a HUGE majority.
There is also a Board of Trustees for the Univ of Tennessee (link) -- it seems to consist of mostly white men.
The budget for the Univ of Tennessee is controlled/approved by the General Assembly and the Board of Trustees.
So Republicans in TN could easily exert influence on university leadership over this kind of thing.
But I doubt they will.
These objectionable changes are happening throughout the country largely with the acquiescence, or only token opposition, of Republicans.
Most people in Tennessee, when they think of the University of Tennessee, worry about the for the last 15 years or so mediocre football team, not crt and anti-white indoctrination.

I felt at the time it was a mistake to fire Fulmer -- not many winning seasons and lots of coaching turnover since then; only 2 winning records in the SEC since Fulmer left, whereas in his 16 seasons, Fulmer had a losing record in the SEC only 2x.
Like I said. Those professor losing tenure will just find a refugee more friendly. Singapore maybe.
