Glen Campbell Sings “Gentle on My Mind” with Virtuoso Guitar Solo

Re-posted by N.S.

N.S.: Glen’s face aged very gracefully, but unfortunately not so his nervous system. His head twitches violently during this performance, which I suspect was an early sign of the Alzheimer’s that would eventually kill him. Degenerative neurological disorders can develop over many years.

The original poster write “Alternate Guitar Solo,” but I don’t see it that way. When he got together with country musicians, this is the way he liked to play it, presumably because this style let him strut his stuff as one of the premier guitar players of his generation. Campbell was a legendary sessions musician, just breaking into singing when young composer Jimmy Webb (“Up, Up and Away,” “MacArthur’s Park,” etc.) gave him “Wichita Lineman” to play in 1968. And the rest, as they say, is history.

“From 1984, Glen Campbell sings ‘Gentle on My Mind’ and plays a guitar solo different from what he usually plays on this song—a fantastic solo, as usual! Looks like Carl Jackson on banjo. Of course, this song is on Glen's 1967 album Gentle on My Mind, available at finer retailers everywhere!

It is sad when someone suffers from degenerative nervous diseases. Unfortunately, if some doctors are right, we are going to see a lot more of this in the future caused by the spike proteins in the fake "vaccines."

I usually like Glen's live performances, especially more acoustic ones, more than his studio recordings. His producers tended to layer on a lot of "stuff" that often just detracted from Glen's singular guitar playing and singing. One of my favorites is one where he sits down with Jimmy Webb at the piano to do a version of "Galveston", he doesn't do any flashy guitar improvs on this one but demonstrates some beautiful vocal work as he plays with the slowed down melody to reveal a much more moving version of the one we hear on the radio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8qsYsG3aQY

I'll recommend something that popped up after the "Gentle on my Mind" clip--Glen on the "Chris Isaak Show"--from about 2009.A full hour retrospective of his life, with performances and old stories about Sinatra and John Wayne.Someone posted he was 73 at this point.Looks younger.
