El Chapo Trial: Former Mexican President Peña Nieto Took $100 Million Bribe, Witness Says
NEW YORK - Former Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto took a $100 million bribe from international drug traffickers, according to a witness at the trial of Joaquín Guzmán Loera, the infamous crime lord known as El Chapo. The stunning testimony was delivered Tuesday in a New York courtroom by Alex Cifuentes Villa, a Colombian drug lord who worked closely with Guzmán from 2007 to 2013, when they were hiding from the authorities at one of the kingpin's remote ranches in the Sierra Madre mountains.
"Mr. Guzmán paid a bribe of $100 million to President Peña Nieto?" Jeffrey Lichtman, one of Guzmán's lawyers, asked Cifuentes during cross-examination.
"Yes," responded Cifuentes.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A man who allegedly broke into the home of a missing woman believed to be dead has been arrested in Grand Rapids.
Cedric Marks, 44, is being held in the Kent County jail for another agency. Muskegon County Prosecutor D.J. Hilson confirms Marks was taken into custody on burglary charges for breaking into the Temple, Texas home of his ex-girlfriend, Jenna Scott.
Hilson said Marks was living in Muskegon, but was shopping in Grand Rapids when he was arrested. He was booked in the Kent County Jail on Jan. 8.
Scott and her friend Michael Swearingin disappeared Jan. 4. Swearingin’s car was found in Austin a day later, according to KXAN. A Jan. 9 tip led police to two bodies in Clearview, Oklahoma, which police preliminarily identified as Scott and Swearingin.
Marks has not been charged with murder.
Cedar Springs native Dottie Pease confirms Marks used to date her daughter April Pease, who disappeared in March 17, 2009. Pease was last seen in Bloomington, Minnesota. Family members say sje moved to there for a substance abuse program and to get away from Marks.
"It wasn't a healthy relationship. The guy was pretty controlling and possessive," April Pease's uncle Marvin Pease told 24 Hour News 8. "The last we heard, she was going to go to Minnesota for treatment and my sister was hopeful with that and we didn't hear anything after that."
"I never really had the feeling she was relapsing," Dottie Pease told KXAN, explaining that before her daughter disappeared, she was clean and had been doing well.
When asked about Marks' potential connection to her daughter's disappearance, Dottie Pease said she cannot rule it out.
"We don't know the facts of everything yet, but it's looking pretty scary," Marvin Pease told 24 Hour News 8.
"We are aware of the developments in Texas regarding another missing person’s case, and have been in contact with local law enforcement in that jurisdiction," Bloomington police said in a release.
They would not refer to Marks as a person of interest at this time, saying they are "in the process of getting information from Texas law enforcement."
Marks has not been charged in either missing person case. Pease's family is working to get custody of her son.
Marks’ wife, Ginell McDonough, is in the Muskegon County jail for harboring a fugitive — her husband.
Maya Maxwell, who officials identified as Marks’ girlfriend, is also in the Muskegon County jail for tampering with evidence.
Marks and Maxwell are waiting to be extradited back to Texas within the next 10 days.
Hilson says Pease’s son and the Marks’ other child with McDonough are safe.
