GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids police say the suspect in a stabbing and attempted carjacking in Walker was shot by an officer.

Police say the situation began around 8:56 a.m. Officers were originally called to the area of First Street NW and Milwaukee Avenue NW.

Grand Rapids Police Sergeant Terry Dixon says the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Victor Gonzalez, was shot in the stomach. He was taken to the hospital where he is in surgery. The officer was not injured.

Dixon also confirmed Gonzalez is the suspect in a stabbing and attempted carjacking at the Meijer on Alpine Avenue in Walker. That incident happened Thursday night.

Grand Rapids police say they received an anonymous tip that Gonzalez was in the area of First Street and Milwaukee Avenue Saturday morning. When officers arrived, they saw him going into the Steel Cat Bar. Officers tried to speak with Gonzalez, but he fled.

Police say he then ran inside the nearby One Bourbon Bar & Restaurant at 608 Bridge Street NW. After about an hour, he tried to run out of the back of the building, where he was shot.

Michigan State Police is investigating the officer-involved shooting. Dixon would not elaborate on the confrontation between police and Gonzalez. He also would not say if the suspect was armed, saying the department will wait until MSP releases their findings.

Records show Gonzalez pleaded guilty to Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Carrying a Concealed Weapon in January, 2014. Both are felony convictions.

GRA: This entire area is complete crap. If I could show you pictures of what it used to be 15-20 years ago and now, it would be shocking. Anyways, there's a mugshot of Gonzales on WOOD TV.com as well.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids police are searching for three suspects in connection to a shooting Saturday.

It happened around 9 p.m. at a house in the 1600 block of Elizabeth Avenue NW, according to authorities.

According to police on scene, a 22-year-old woman was shot in the stomach and is currently in critical condition.

Police are searching for three suspects. The first suspect is described as a man around 5-foot-8 who was last seen wearing a white sweatshirt and dark pants. The second suspect is described as tall, heavy-set man who was last wearing a black sweater and blue jeans. The last suspect is described as a thin man who was last seen wearing a blue sweatshirt and blue jeans.
GRA:I'll let you know for sure, but I would put the odds of the victim being white and the perps being black as 90%.
How about the descriptions NOT giving their race?I'll give updates tomorrow.

The only update at this hour is the unnamed woman is out of surgery and in critical condition. In situations like this, you rarely get a glimpse of who the victim is--unless the family appears on TV to plea for help in solving the case.
I also know, that many times,in a black on black shooting, the victim is dumped off at the emergency entrance.(It's almost a ritual). This vic was left at her house--so my spidey sense is tingling,"white woman".So far, no official clues,as to her ID.
Will update when new info comes in.

Thanks to WOOD TV video of the house shown as the crime scene,I did a little Google street search and matched up the houses,to come up with 1660 Elizabeth nw.The owner is a 26 yr old Amber Mossbacher(white of course). The report says a 22 year old was shot critically. She must be either a friend,or relative of Mossbacher's,(if the age is correct)I'm assuming. No other details yet.No update on her condition.I'll check the 6pm news.
