On December 18, 2009, a Hispanic white eighth-grader at Engelwood’s Janis Dismus Middle School, David Muneton, accidentally hit a black girl with a basketball. The unnamed girl got ten of her friends to jump Muneton on his way home from school that day, and the 11 stomped him almost to death, putting him in jeopardy of losing an eye.
The local CBS affiliate reported the story in bare bones fashion, and then sought to minimize it. After all, it was a classic hate crime. CBS News had to engage in a propaganda counter-offensive. In the original story, there was no mention of race. But now, alleged reporter Christine Sloan revised her story, to say that the victim was Hispanic, and thus deserving of sympathy, and that the gang was “diverse,” with the first boy hitting Muneton also Hispanic.
See how quickly “reporters” can report things that “don’t matter,” when it suddenly becomes expedient? But look at David Muneton—he’s a white boy, whiter than me.
Readers posted 246 outraged comments—I didn’t see a single one defending the attackers—and while many were powerful and/or funny, an awful lot were crude. I knew CBS would delete them all, and sure enough, its censor did just that the same night.
I tried to copy and paste all of them that night, but conked out. Fortunately, the following morning, all comments were still on my server. I finished the job, and planned to post everything to my blog, but that night (December 23, 2009), we got the call from Trinidad, that The Boss’ father had died. Once we returned, I never got around to cleaning up my backlog.
Note that even the local media displayed little interest in this story. A few outlets just plagiarized CBS’ story, while Gothamist alone did a slight follow-up. However, everyone then dropped the story. No one cared whether David Muneton recovered, his eye was saved, or he received justice.
All I have been able to find out about Muneton since, is that he now plays high school football, which is very good news, indeed.

What began as an innocent mistake ended in a vicious attack on a local honor student.
Police said as many as 11
students beat up an eighth-grader honor student in an apparent case of
revenge. The victim, who is Hispanic [the ethnic description was not in the original story; apparently, being Hispanic made the vic more deserving of sympathy, in CBS’ editors’ eyes], suffered severe injuries, and it was possible he may lose sight in one eye. It is not believed, however, that he was the victim of a hate crime. [That’s a bald-face lie!] Police said the student who threw the first punch was also Hispanic, and the other students all come from diverse backgrounds [the “diverse” crap also wasn’t in the first version].
The incident, which occurred near the Janis Dismus Middle School school [sic] soccer field, was so violent that 13-year-old David Muneton needed reconstructive surgery to his face to correct several broken bones.
His friends at the Janis Dismus Middle School in Englewood are stunned.
"It's so hard. … I'm his best friend," Denise Melendez said before breaking down in tears.
Police have arrested seven
students from both the middle school and high school, charging them with
aggravated assault. The youngest one is just 12 years old.
Investigators
said the teenagers jumped Muneton on Friday as he walked home from school to get back at him for an earlier incident during which the eighth-grader accidentally
hit a [black] girl with a basketball.
The superintendent said the girl, who has also been charged, led the boys to Muneton, saying "He's the one."
"We do know that after the girl made the comment one of the people, the boys, who was [sic] with him immediately punched him," Superintendent Dr. Richard Segall said.
Students at the middle school have made a get well card for the 13-year-old -- all of them outraged over what happened.
"He
really didn't deserve to get beat up like that because he really didn't do anything and it wasn't intentional that he hit her with a ball," student Michael Bailey said.
"If I was there Ii would have told someone," student Emanuel Doughtery added.
"I wrote I hope he gets better soon," said student Katherine Saldarriga.
Muneton was recovering at Englewood Hospital and sent home on Wednesday. His brother told CBS 2 HD his condition is improving. The assistant principal said the youngster is a model student.
"He is a wonderful young man, actually one of our students who made the honor roll this quarter," Daniella Bailey said.
As these kids try to make sense of what happened all seven students arrested have been suspended. This coming as police was looking to charge four more teenagers.
Three of the students charged remain at the juvenile detention center in Paramus, while the rest have been released to their parents -- two of them required to wear ankle bracelets.

Christine Sloan’s December 22, 7:54 p.m. report [forget it, sometime before the following August 19 they had pulled the story] on New York’s WCBS-TV on the savage December 18 attack on honor student David Muneton in Englewood, New Jersey, was entitled, “7 Arrested In Savage Attack On N.J. 8th Grader.” The story carried the subtitle, “Gang Of 11 Brutally Assault, Break Facial Bones Of Young Honor Student Over What Was Apparent Misunderstanding.”
When you read a subtitle like that, you know you’re about to get reamed.
Members of the human race—including attackers as old as 16—do not stomp a 13-year-old almost to death over an “apparent misunderstanding.” Whoever wrote such a vile subtitle has no business in the news business. But of course, such vile creatures now run the news business. Such moral obscenities are on a par with a white official saying that the white victims of racist gang-rape, torture, and murder, Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom, were in the “wrong place at the wrong time,” or the case from about ten years ago in New York City’s Far Rockaway area, in which local blacks called it a “tragic misunderstanding,” when a black man suddenly stopped and murdered a pedestrian he had just passed, because he thought that the pedestrian had insulted him.

Those students that are involved in the Muneton biting they are criminals they should stay in jail, they have no future outside. If the public allows these criminals to be released from jail, be prepared to what they will do next. Keep your eyes open you could be the next victim. I am saddened by this incident. The pain and suffering of this young man and his family. My heart goes out to the family. The questions. What led a group of young people to believe they were entitled to take action. I am trying to understand how you could physically hurt another person hitting him over and over. Wasn't there anyone to step up for the boy? Didn't any of the attackers feel anything? I have been increasingly concerned about our young adults. They are more intimidating in groups. Bad language is bolding spoken. Police don't seams to move them along. They are impowered. Is it because they are in a group? I now cross the street. There is a different attitude. The sheer potential for such a violent act with no concern for the consequences. I want there to be a strong "message" sent. This is not acceptable.

Amazing how descriptions of the attackers were ambiguous but the article places no doubt that a little, selfish girl was hit by a basketball. How did the journalist know for sure but not know the makeup of the mob? Perhaps the girl, who I envision as plump, since the article didn't mention otherwise, picked this young man for a human sacrifice. Maybe, there was no basketball? This victim fought off a large mob single-handed. That's more than I can ever say for myself. He will be more of a man than any one of the attackers.

Someone needs to put the little psychopaths behind bars and BTW, if this was a racially motivated crime as many on this board seem to feel, and if there is a deliberate attempt to cover that up. The incident underlines the likely failure of teachers in the victim's school to put any class time into helping students understand at a gut level why hurting others is wrong. Too many faculty substitute a "zero tolerance policy" for hands on training for life in civil society. I grew up in a neiborhood in NYC ruled by gangs. In my case teachers and also the police took the time to make my peers and me look at alternatives to force for settling insults and disputes. We went way beyond the consequences of "getting caught" and dwelled for hours on what we would be doing to ourselves when we hurt others. The result of weeks of intervention by ex gang members helped prevent havoc by teaching us how "cool off, calm down, think first, act last."

This event is an indication of what happens daily in the nation's public schools in grades 4 - 12. Lucky we are that most the time a teacher or someone stops the fights before really serious injury ... parents should be fined $10,000.00 and their insurance should pay medical expenses and other damages to the victim ... and the attacking students should be expelled for one year and jailed without visitors for 6 months for fighting ... A few such examples would bring the fights, which are often planned and shown on the internet, to a screeching halt ... I know. I teach.

There is a code-language in the lamestream media. If a story doesn't indicate the victim's race and especially if it doesn't indicate the perps' race, you can be that the victim is "white" and the perps will be "black." This is the "non-racism" of the Regressives. I for one will no longer allow them to co-opt my language. I may not be able to use the words "liberal" and "progressive" in their traditional meanings, but I can certainly use different words. I choose the words "hyena" and "regressives" respectively. Hey John, I don't care that he was Hispanic, 11 to 1 odds, they lay in wait for him, lame ass excuse about the girl and the basketball as somehow justifying breaking the kids facial bones, possibly blinding him. I restate, if the people who are supposed to be reporting on stories touching public safety are failing to report a racist attack due to the race of the perpetrators, public safety is being harmed. The situation will never EVER improve if allowed to fester and putrefy away from the sunlight of public disapproval and condemnation. If race is a factor here, we need to address the hate that spawned such behavior in so many who are so young. There is something seriously wrong with these children AND their parents. Physical abuse of any type is wrong. To beat another child so savagely that he may lose his eyesight is beyond the pale. I think many of the comments here are out of line. The article, as I read it, has no mention of race of either side. The racial comments here are totally out of place and do nothing but exacerbate a racial divide in society getting worse. Even if we knew for sure all the attackers were black and the victim white we still don't have the facts to make this a "racial" incident. Sounds to me like some hotheaded kids with no guidance really screwed up and the rest of their lives - black or white - are wrecked. This isn't to say they should get off with a hand slap. Quite the contrary. They should be punished severely and made to understand (and pay for) the wrong they did to this young man.

Where are the idiots who say we don't need corporal punishment in schools? Paddle them now or put them in prison later. The amusing part of the matter is that there is "concern" regarding the lack of "sufficient integration" at the high school that this middle school feeds. Possibly integration with the concomitant violence should be re-examined and students enabled to attend schools that don't foster such conflict. Segretating the prisons would also help reduce prison violence. Why are diversity and desegregation considered "virtues," when they give rise to such horrible occurrences.

I think it is worth noting that many of the students who were signing best wishes to the victim were black kids. It would be nice (and convenient) if we could just label everyone in a certain group as good or bad but it doesn't work that way. I thought this was a heartbreaking story, and then I read the comments. Mindless blind racist hatred has no place in this society. Red, yellow, black, white, I DGAS what color you are. The point is innocent people have to be protected from violent thugs. We need to take a good long look at our criminal justice system. Close the revolving door for predators. The recitivism rate is disgraceful. Parents should be held to some account for the behavior of their ferrel thugs.

The ever present racial component aside, is any one really surprised by this outrage? Pop culture and the media (rap music and gang culture) glorify such violence, and even condone the conduct of it. This is especially true if you are a member of some aggrieved minority or group. "Don't dare disrespect me, I'll kill you". After all, he had it coming because he hit her with a basketball. How sad, when will we realize that it is not only the lost children that need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law but their parents as well. As child who is taught love and respect in the home would never do this to another human being. This type of violent outrage will continue until society wakes up and hauls in the parents as well. I don't know it for a fact and it was left out of the article but I am willing to bet that all of the attackers were black. Only blacks habitually express this level of violence over nothing. I am also willing to bet that if the tables were turned and it was a black kid that was attacked and even if not beaten very bad, maybe just roughed up, brother Jessy and brother Al would be screaming for white blood at the obvious white hate crime. There would be protest and such and riots and all kinds of "peaceful" demonstrations. Charge these animals under the same crappy law that they use to railroad every white guy who looks cross eyed at a black person anymore. Charge them with a hate crime and of course attempted murder. Then find a prison that is controlled by the aryans and put them there. Give these scum what they have coming to them and the girl too. If you can find they mommys and they daddy's then do the same to them and oh, sterilize them as well.

answer is home schooling ladies and gentlemen. it isn't that difficult for parents to set up home schooling. the school districts are set up for this. let the esteemed teacher union members deal with what's left in the classroom. parents and grandparents (i am one) who are readion this, really, home school set up is made to be easy on parents and custodians.

When I was a child I felt all people were equal and I had black friends etc. Unfortunately, my black friends started walking funny and dressing even funnier, and started hating me for no reason. After many horrible experiences I found that most black and hispanic males are worthless trash - I never set out to feel this way it was simply proven to me. No doubt white "students" beating up a black honor student would be trumpeted and northern NJ would have been getting a visit from Jackson, Sharpton, Jones, and Jeremiah Wright. So, Sloan, what race were the viscious bullies??? Do keep us informed, wont you? I know we can count on CBS to get us the facts; just like they were out in front on the false climate change data. Yes, the media loves to pretend being latino or hispanic is a different race when trying to downplay black racism. If you watch the Bachelor TV show (yes, I know it's drivel but sometimes I wallow in the mud), they're making a big deal about how he's the first latino/hispanic bachelor. He's blondish with classic European features, comes from some South American country and speaks with an accent but is clearly of white European genetic descent. Sorry, I know that's not exactly relevant to this incident but i just wanted to comment on it.
Yeah, the kid that was beaten is clearly white but having a latino'ish sounding surname will serve the media for deflecting any obvious racial bias.
Speaking of race crimes, you'll likely see this yourself but they've finally posted pictures of the Maryland mall shooter, turns out he is black. Took them a while, seems like they usually get the photos out sooner, I wonder if the delay was because they were trying to figure out behind the scenes how to spin the race angle, after all they work hard to promote the public perception that only whites do these kind of shootings. I predict this story, while it will get initial publicity, will drop off the media radar quickly and not get the kind of followup reminders that we get with white shooters. Reminds me of the Aaron Alexis mass shooter, literally the next day I looked at some discussion forums re black race crimes and plenty of black commenters were still screaming how only whites do mass shootings, guarantee you ask any of them today and not one of them will even remember Aaron Alexis's name.
