"Uncle Remus" shoots "Aunt Jemima" and "Mrs. Butterworth" dead in chicago--plus other reported murders this weekend

"(cbs noise) saturday, at 10:47 a.m. in the 800 block of north parkside avenue, a 79-year-old man was sitting inside a vehicle when he was approached by two to three gunmen on foot who opened fire, hitting the victim in the face. the suspects fled the scene on foot. the victim was taken to Mt. Sinai hospital in good condition.

[N.S.: Lately, you've sent several reports of black men of all ages getting shot while sitting in their cars, GRA. Do I get the impression that quite a few black men are living in their cars?]

"at 8:55 p.m., a 20-year-old man was in the 500 block of south Holden court, a named alley downtown, when two men came up, and one of them shot him. the victim was taken to Stroger hospital of Cook county in fair condition.

"at 10:50 p.m., police found two women [black], ages 68 and 71, each with gunshot wounds to the chest in the 10400 block of south peoria street. both were pronounced dead at the scene. the younger woman was identified as Phyllis Goolsby [black]. a 75-year-old man [black] was placed into custody at the scene, and a weapon was recovered.

"at 12:54 a.m., a quarrel turned into a fight between several people at the 79th street red line station along the Dan Ryan expressway. during the fight, a 21-year-old man was shot in the chest, and a 23-year-old man was shot in the buttocks. both were taken to the university of chicago medical center in serious condition. three men were taken into custody, with charges pending on sunday morning.

"at 4:57 a.m., a 42-year-old man was in a vehicle in the 2300 block of south Kedzie avenue when a gray sedan pulled up, and the people in the sedan pulled out guns and shot the man. the man was shot once in each leg and was taken to Mount Sinai hospital in critical condition.

"at 8:05 a.m., a 25-year-old man was in a home in the 2100 block of south Trumbull avenue when he got into a quarrel with an attacker. the attacker shot the victim three times in the chest and fled. the victim was taken to Mount Sinai hospital, where he was pronounced," "nig napped."
