McCraney has just been sentenced to "Life Without Parole."
N.S.: Aka life until parole.
For years, I have been convinced that more and more jurisdictions have abolished, sotto voce, justice, where heinous black criminals are concerned.

He won't be getting out. This is Alabama, not the UK. He has already enjoyed almost 25 years of extra freedom after committing a rape and two murders of juvenile/teen girls. No reason for leniency.
I saw he is planning to appeal (an appellate review of a death sentence is probably mandatory). Not a surprise.
I don't know what the grounds for an appeal might be. The trial was fairly straightforward, being a recounting of: the original investigation, the later DNA analysis, his arrest and interrogation, and his own testimony where he told the consensual sex fairy tale, which the jurors clearly did not believe.
Maybe there was some technical legal error or violation?
Is an appeals court supposed to second guess or find fault with the jury's evaluation of witness credibility?
Clearly the DNA evidence was damning, and the consensual sex story not believable. That's it.
I'm not aware of any absolute standard for "reasonable doubt".
It's a formality to appeal. Also a formality to reject the appeal.Lawyers making money.
