Central Park Crime Explosion Means Next Central Park Jogger Attack Could Happen at Any Time—but Never Fear, between NYPD’s “Creative Writing” and MSM’s Support of Black Super-Predators, Racist Thugs Can Easily be Converted into “Victims” of “Racism”

“The murder rate, muddled by the NYPD’s strange habit of ‘reclassifying’ dozens of murders whose precipitating violent incident took place years before, is roughly flat. But the city’s insistence that overall crime remains at record lows sounds increasingly more plaintive than boastful, as if this is the best we can do. Traffic safety advocates, to their credit, are never satisfied with near-record lows.” [Nicole Gelinas, “How ignoring crime, accident data caused three deaths in 10 days in NYC,” by Nicole Gelinas, New York Post, last updated December 23, 2019.]

Serious crimes have spiked by 31 percent in Central Park this year, with a spate of muggings, a rape and a murder.

The NYPD crime stats through Dec. 15 show the increase over the same period in 2018.

There were 20 robberies, 36 grand larcenies and the murder of 36-year-old Oscar Calle whose body was found near Lasker pool in August — the first such crime in the park in 17 years. A 19-year-old was charged in the case.

Reported rapes declined from three to one, but other sex crimes rose from four to 10.

Crimes were also up in and around Morningside Park where Barnard College freshman Tessa Majors was murdered Dec. 11. A 13-year-old has been charged in the case and two other teen suspects have yet to be arrested.

In Central Park, a group of teens beat up and mugged a 68-year-old man who was walking through the park in August, taking $250 and his identification.

Teens forced a 33-year-old man off his e-bike in Central Park in April by rolling a skateboard in front of him and then took his wallet and grabbed the bicycle, police said.

A 31-year-old woman walking in the North Woods area in November was approached from behind by a man who removed her AirPods and then pressed a sharp object behind her neck saying “Give me all your money,” police said.

In that case, an older man, 56-year-old Jack Darden, was arrested a few blocks south and charged with robbery.

The NYPD said crime in the city’s most famous park still remains “at historically low levels” and noted the last robbery in the park was Nov. 11.

“The precinct’s commanding officer closely monitors crime conditions and has deployed extra patrol officers in areas where robberies have occurred,” an NYPD spokesman said.
