White baseball player, Cal Raleigh, hits his 37th and 38th home runs tonight—an American league record at (just before) the all-star break
“(Seattle times) mariners' catcher Cal Raleigh continued sending fly balls into the bleachers, in fact, he accomplished it twice tonight. the switch-hitter unleashed #37 in the eighth inning, but No. 38 was record-breaking. it was a grand slam in the ninth off Brant Hurter, the pitcher who gave up Raleigh’s first homer on this march toward history back on March 31. It gave Raleigh sole possession of second [sic] all-time for the most homers before the all-star break, one behind Barry Bonds, who hit 39 in 2001, and the most ever by an American League player.
[N.S.: Since Bonds' "records" all were on account of peds, none of them count.]
Raleigh moved past Chris Davis (2013), Mark McGwire (1998) and Reggie Jackson (1969), all of whom hit 37 before the break. Both homers came from the right side, giving him 16 from that side of the plate.
[N.S.: By 1998, McGwire was also cheating.]
He has six hits in the last 10 games — all six have been home runs.
GRA: The guy is a behemoth. I posted this and another article about Raleigh, a couple weeks ago, to show there's at least one great White player to root for this baseball season. It'd be quite pleasing to see him beat druggie Bonds out of the [fake] season record.
