The Philly Street Not Taken
'Twas 1:00 am in Port Richmond 'hood,
On the corner of Salmon and Monmouth,
And I wished to travel neither,
Fearful brutha but needing a hit, long I stood,
And looked down Salmon as far as I could,
Past where the Wawa was, now boarded with wood,
Is that a corpse in repose?
Monmouth perchance likewise unfair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Dog-poop, used needles, homeless without name,
Yes, I know a dealer there, but
Perhaps another dead body just the same.
Salmon I chose and indeed, a body, dead,
Took a bullet to the head,
My risk of becoming a suspect is nigh,
Or if not, they'll still force me to testify,
And I shall be telling all this with a sigh,
'specially if they search my pockets.
Two roads diverged in the 'hood, and I
Moved to Philly but why? To die?
You racists bein' all the indifference,
I shoulda stayed in Jersey.
