Tracie Hawlett-J.B. Beasley Murder Trial Nears

Today (Thursday), the final pre-trial hearing took place for the trial of Coley McCraney for the 1999 double murders of Tracie Hawlett and J.B. Beasley.

"Jury selection is to begin on August 8, with the trial commencing the following week."

"dale county circuit judge William Filmore is mulling allowing more than the normal two alternates due to covid concerns."

A couple of days ago there was some news (Google "Tracie Hawlett J.B. Beasley") on the Hawlett-Beasley murders.

The defense attorneys want the judge to permit testimony "that would cast serious doubt that McCraney shot 17-year olds J.B. Beasley and Tracie Hawlett in 1999."

The local TV station thinks (hopes) testimony about a cop supposedly shooting the two girls "would sway jurors toward returning not guilty verdicts."

There is no evidence of "a cop" committing the crime. Somebody just says so. Normally the defense would have to introduce evidence of another suspect.

In the O.J. Simpson farce, Judge Lance Ito allowed Cochran to rant "Fuhrman planted the glove" despite their being no evidence of such.

The defense and their supporters are ignoring the DNA evidence implicating McCraney.

The trial is supposed to begin next week.

A woman who claimed for years "a cop killed the two girls," recanted on the stand during a hearing Thursday. She said, "I lied."

A Google search will give several news stories.
