GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Two days after riots in downtown Grand Rapids damaged at least 100 businesses, employees at the Kent County courthouse and county prosecutor’s office were given the option to leave work early due to rumors of another protest Monday afternoon.

Kent County Sheriff Michele LaJoye-Young told News 8 that Kent County Administrator Wayman Britt sent an email to county employees about the option to leave early — not because of fears of violence associated with the rumored protest, but rather, to allow employees to access their cars before the possibility of street closures and traffic congestion [GRA: If you believe that, I’ve got a retail store to sell you in Minneapolis].

Grand Rapids police say they’re also aware of rumors of the protest, which may include a march starting downtown. The protest is not a permitted event, and police are encouraging the community to stay home.

GRPD is also trying to identify the protest’s organizers, and is asking for any information that could help.

“We would very much like to speak to anyone associated with this rally in order to coordinate efforts to keep the community safe and not have a repeat of recent events,” Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Payne said in a release. “What we have been hearing about lately is the need to work together, well, this is definitely one of those times.”

GRA: Flash mob attempt, before curfew kicks in. If they get hundreds or thousands to show up, more chaos on tap.

MI people can carry weapons openly. They need to do so and be prepared to use them and with deadly accuracy. This is no penny ante shit now. This is for real.
