Aretha Franklin: How the News Can Unwittingly Diminish the Great

During the 1970s, sporting a flapper look. To my younger readers: They are 100% real.

By Nicholas Stix

On ABC’s Eyewitness News, some guy in the studio (white) said in his closing on the death of Aretha Franklin, “An artist who transcended popular music to become part of American culture.”

Or did he close with, “part of American music”? No matter. If he had avoided hyperbole, he would have had a chance at saying something memorable.

Had her first child when she was 12 yrs. old, her 2nd at 14. First father was a boy around her age, the 2nd was a man named Edward Jordan, not sure how old he was, his age is not mentioned anywhere I can find but I suspect he was an adult male. Early sexual activity and sexual abuse of underage black girls, often incestuous, by adult black men is very common in the black community but not spoken of much, the don't snitch policy is followed while it is going on, then if they become celebrities they might talk about it but will never acknowledge it's more common in the black community than the white. One of the black women I had a relationship with in my younger days was sexually molested by her black father (she had an asian mother), though she never wanted to bring it out into the open, the black side of her family would have been censured her if she did. Dat be whitey's problem...

Aretha would not sing the National Anthem. Preferred as I recall to sing America the Beautiful.

She sang the National Anthem at the 1968 World Series and was WIDELY castigated- her shrieking rendition was termed disrespectful "caterwauling" and, as one person commented, "She didn't know the words either." What a different world- and a million times better than today!

Nicholas stix, you are undoubtedly a fan of the large breasts, as am I. But I can say that I never looked at Aretha that way before due to her appearance in her later years. This picture does cast her in another light, however. I never realized that she was attractive at one time. Kinda reminds me of a girlfriend of mine when I was younger whose mother did some pictures for Playboy when she was younger. She was a very nice lady but quite large, and she smoked like a chimney and drank like a fish. Although we all liked her, we would jokingly call her some variation of orca to my girlfriend because it never failed to get a rise out of her. She would then invariably remind us of the Playboy thing. While in the subject of breasts, are you still of the opinion that Kate upton's are fake? I consider myself an expert on these matters and I am quite sure they are not.

DD,

After subjecting the matter to further scholarly scrutiny, I am withholding judgment until further notice.

However, I am quite sure that reports that Upton is a 34D are incorrect. Since: 1. The bra size number is determined by the back's degree of broadness; 2. Upton lists widely as 5'10"; 3. She is broad-shouldered and fleshy, if slim (most of the time); and 4. Based on my own experience with well-endowed ladies whose weight changed dramatically in either direction while we were together, and who ultimately conscripted me into the roles of brassiere consultant and buyer; it is my considered judgment that Upton is at least a 36 or 38D or DD.

Too bad Aretha was recruited into a Queens guru based cult about 20 to 25 years ago. Her producer is a brainwashed follower.

She sang America the Beautiful instead of the National Anthem at the guru's request, because he liked that song better. I wonder how much money, property and investments she left to the cult. I would hope her family fights them for everything.

"her shrieking rendition was termed disrespectful 'caterwauling'"

Negro singers like to scream and shout. They are such talented persons they like to show their emotional side. THEY ARE NOT A PERRY COMO!

I saw her perform in Chicago one time. She wore a pink spandex dress. She had so many roles of blubber,it was distracting. She was sassy& raunchy. She claimed she was going to lose weight because she had herself a young man & they were going to ....all night long.
