This is actually a PSA! Anti-drug PSAs tend to be dull as dishwater exercises in clichés that not only reach nobody, but which are stupid in the bargain.
One that ran countless times circa 2000 showed a black man and his 12 or 13-year-old son eating breakfast in silence.
At the end, came the moral: Another opportunity to talk about drugs missed.
Stupidito!
The same 15-second clip could have been a positive message: If you eat breakfast with your kids, you won’t have to deliver idiotic lectures on drugs and countless other urgent topics.
When feminists were lecturing the country a few years ago, “Teach your sons not to rape!” that became a punchline in the Stix household: “Remember, don’t rape!”
The video below was surely inspired by a comedy routine by Robin Williams dramatically recalling his cocaine addiction. People used to call on the Powers that be to use Williams’ sketch in PSAs—he would surely have granted permission to use it—but the humorless PTB wouldn’t go there.
Well, they have now!
