Mostly bLACK, muskegon heights, michigan (40 miles west of grand rapids) cops respond to a shooting and find a shot nEGRO; a few minutes later; a few minutes later more gunfire rings out from down the block, while a tv reporter is on air, conducting interviews on the first shooting
"(wzzm tv) muskegon heights, mich. — law enforcement in muskegon heights is investigating an apparent fatal shooting on tuesday evening.
"it happened just before 5 p.m. in an alley behind a car wash near Getty street, between Ray street and Hovey avenue.
"the muskegon heights police department was first made aware of the shooting after a detective who was in the area for an unrelated investigation heard gunshots and radioed it in. around that same time, other officers in the area reported hearing gunfire as well as multiple residents who called 911.
"officers responded to the area and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. officers began providing medical aid and called for medical assistance. the man was brought to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead. 13 on your side spoke with the man's uncle, who said his nephew had died at the scene.
"near the active police scene, one man told 13 on your side reporter Lauren Baker that he heard the shots go off when he looked out the window and saw someone running. that witness told 13 on your side they saw first responders trying to resuscitate a man on the ground.
"as 13 on your side was speaking to another witness, who said he was disgusted with the recent violence, additional shots rang out.
"the muskegon heights police department said officers were investigating the first shooting when the additional shots were heard nearby. they said the second shooting was near the intersection of Ray and Ivory streets, about 200 yards from the original scene.
"according to the police department, numerous officers responded to the second scene while gunfire was still being reported.
"shortly after that, the muskegon heights police department was notified that someone had arrived at a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds. they said they believe this person was injured in the second shooting.
"at that time, muskegon heights police called for assistance from the muskegon police department, Norton shores police department and the michigan state police.
"police said they did not have any further information at this time, and requested that anyone with information please call muskegon heights pd (231) 733-8900 or silent observer (231) 722-7463."
