So true, about 10 blocks for me.Stopped at a drugstore on the way home, bought baseball cards(with stale gum),great neighborhood.I cut down alleys, wandered here and there--never a worry.Got home, went out and played with the neighbor kids.Supper would be ready about 5:30.

For me I got two quarters per day for car fare what they called it. Bus fare to and from school. I used to walk the two miles to high school in the morning and take the bus home in the evening. I pocketed a quarter a day and was so proud for having done so.

Earlier this year - oh the horrors! more than a half-mile, temps in the 20s. In a Red state. MTG's district, in fact.

Anthony Curt Duran, a 36-year-old Rome man, was charged with felony cruelty to children in the second degree, criminal negligence, and disorderly conduct. He is also charged with misdemeanor obstruction of law enforcement officers, according to authorities.

Duran remains in jail on a $12,000 bond as of Friday morning.

The charges come after an incident involving Duran and a child under the age of 18, specifically his six-year-old stepson. According to local news reports, Duran allegedly forced the young boy to walk more than half a mile to school in freezing temperatures.
