There was recently an announcement claiming that 92-year-old newscorp founder Rupert Murdoch had retired.
The elder Murdoch had already retired several years ago. He acknowledged as much when Gretchen Carlson headlined a me-too shakedown lawsuit in 2016 against Rupert’s righthand man Roger Ailes, who had founded fox news in 1996 under the elder Murdoch’s flag.
At the time, Rupert said that had he still been in control he would have fought the lawsuits, which would, as a result, have been much less costly, but that he had a merely advisory function at newscorp, which he had handed over to his son, Lachlan. Lachlan Murdoch surrendered without a fight, and therefore paid through the nose ($20 million to Carlson alone).
