Calling her estranged was a way of making her sound like a victim. She may not have known he was a serial killer but she knew he was not right in some way. No man capable of such acts does not display red flags that he is deeply disturbed, she just ignored them. Women always know something is wrong, they may not know exactly what, but they know. What's really incomprehensible is the young attractive ones who choose to be with monsters like this, they have options.
Of course men can be with disturbed women also and ignore the signs something is wrong, but it's usually men capable of acts this horrifying.
