Inwood is the uppermost section of manhattan, and is characterized by lush parkland, beautiful architecture, and apartments with parquet wood floors. When I first came to new york city to attend grad school, I had friends up there. Back then, most of the apartment buildings had dominican supers who carefully screened prospective tenants in a way that White supers could not get away with.
Inwood, manhattan is not to be confused with the eponymous town in western nassau county, which is one of the “five towns,” which are, in turn, parts of the town of hempstead. While lawrence, cedarhurst, woodmere and hewlett are well-to-do and heavily Orthodox Jewish, inwood is by far the most ghettoized of the five.
Apparently, inwood, manhattan is no longer as suburban-urban as it once was.
