My wife and I volunteer at a Sherman, Texas food bank. It's different from many food banks because our clients can "shop" from what we have to offer. The experience is like visiting a very small grocery store. There are limits to what people can take, depending on the size of their households. The selection of food varies.

Incredibly, a client recently asked my wife if filet mignon was available. It isn't.

Our food pantry gets a mix of people. It's worth noting that we are seeing more hispanic people who speak little to no English.

What's the deal with the food banks? What are the recipients already getting in SNAP/EBT/WIC/etc? A neighbor, single middle-aged guy, told me he was getting $400 a month, seems like more than enough. Is that for real? How much does a babymamma with a couple of kids get?
