Never a fan of the Band, their records never really grabbed me but The Weight and The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down were two of the most memorable songs from the 70's. I wondered if Dixie was ever accused of being a racist song so I typed in some keywords and sure enough, the usual hysterics decided it was. Of course it's not racist, it's just telling a story that's a part of history. Pure stupidity to think so.

I WANTED to like "The Band"--Rolling Stone's record guide told me I should--but I never connected either.Good musicians,but the style was too laid back--or something.
