What is the convention in German for the use of the von in a name?
Hasso von Manteuffel if you give the whole name the v is lower case?
Von Manteuffel the last name alone the Von is upper case?
N.S.: Thass right, in both cases, as long as the "von" is legit, unlike in the case of "Erich von Stroheim," who was a con man. He was a Schneider's (tailor's) son, whose real name was Erich Stroheim. When he met Viennese Jew Billy Wilder, he would have revealed his real background before he finished his first sentence.
