JESUS spent three days before he ascended. Lewis gets six days of celebration before he "ascends".
REGIS PHILBIN DIES--GIVE HIM A 7 DAY CELEBRATION
GRA:Regis Philbin of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" and talk show fame,died of natural causes,at the age of 88.Reege,as David Letterman used to call him,always looked like he was 20 years younger than his chronological age--when he was 60,he looked 40.At seventy,he looked 50 and a half(lol).
Some of the funniest comedy I remember watching,took place when Regis appeared on "Late Night with David Letterman"--probably only exceeded in laughs by Seinfeld and then Rickles--when they appeared on "Late Night".
The two had a great chemistry and fed off each other like a great comedy team.
"Come on big guy,let's go hang out together,"Philbin would say.
"I can't,I just installed a bug zapper and I'm going to watch
the mosquitoes get sizzled all night long.Reege,I'm lousy company,if we went out to eat,after ten minutes you'd say,'why the hell did I invite this loser to dinner?'"
But they did go out and Philbin was on Letterman's show around 100 times.
Philbin hosted the morning chatfest,Live with Regis and Kathy Lee/ Kelly" for years.He hosted "Millionaire",the remake of "Password",parades,New Years Eve shows and was the first host of "America's Got Talent".
"Millionaire" became a mania--I called up their 800 number to try out for it and qualified at least 20 times--by answering 5 questions on the phone in a period of time,by putting events in order of when they occurred.I never got an invitation,but it was done at random they said.
Reege appeared on "Rachael Ray" in his later years,visibly getting smaller in height as he moved into his mid 80s.A funny guy and a great entertainer,I already missed seeing him--like he used to be--the last few years,but his passing only increases the good memories of time well spent hearing him talk with celebrities such as good friend Don Rickles.
Philbin might ask me,"That's a pretty good tribute,is that your final answer?"
"That's my final answer Regis--you were one of a kind."
