Tulsa Hate Crime Trial: Testimony Begins in Trial of Confessed, Black Hicks Park Double Murder Defendant

Testimony began on Tuesday in the trial for the September 18, 2011 murders of Carissa Horton and Ethan Nichols in Hicks Park in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Jury selection took a week. The Tulsa World story did not give the makeup of the jury. Since it is a death penalty case, jury selection was lengthy. We can only speculate how it went.

The defendant, Darren Price, claims he did not shoot or kill anybody. He blames the killings on his partner, Jerard Davis, who pleaded guilty last fall and was sentenced to "life without parole."

The defense in their opening statement told jurors to find Price guilty "only of eluding police and being an accessory."

After the murders, Price parked Nichols' car in front of his apartment building. Police spotted the car and arrested Price after he crashed the car. Price later went back to the scene of the crime and spoke to an ABC reporter. These details are not in the story.
