“Dwayne Brisbon was slain in May. Police announced Thursday that they arrested a suspect in his slaying.” [Although suspect Johnathan Frederick Dawkins had a prior arrest record, no media organization deigned to broadcast or publish his mug shot. I can’t imagine why.]

Police arrested a man suspected of stabbing to death a 33-year-old father of a young child who worked as a technician at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.
MPD arrested 30 year-old Johnathan Frederick Dawkins of Southeast, D.C. on Thursday and charged him with murder two in connection with the May 1 slaying of 33-year-old Dwayne Edward Brisbon.
Police say Brisbon appeared to simply be a good Samaritan who came up on an argument between two people on the sidewalk.
"He stopped his vehicle and asked if the person was ok, and at that time there were some words exchanged and he got out of his car and then he was stabbed,” says Lieutenant Robert Alder of MPD’s homicide division.
Brisbon was found unconscious in May inside a vehicle that had crashed into a restaurant near the intersection of 5th Street and Florida Avenue. Authorities say the Brisbon, an Upper Marlboro resident, had stab wounds to the neck.
He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Brisbon was a CT Scan Technologist at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and was named a "SuperStar" at the hospital in 2009 for his exceptional work and dedication to patients. He worked at the hospital for 12 years.
In his Upper Marlboro neighborhood he was known simply as a good guy who liked motorcycles.

Johnathan Dawkins Ordered Held for Dwayne Brisbon Murder

Johnathan Dawkins Affidavit
Supplemental Gerstein
Johnathan Dawkins was ordered held Friday pending a preliminary hearing after Judge Karen Howze ruled that there was substantial probability that he was responsible for the stabbing death of Dwayne Brisbon.
Dawkins turned himself in after finding out he was a person of interest in the case, according to his attorney.
Brisbon was found by members of the Metropolitan Police Department on May 1 inside a car that had crashed into Shaws Tavern in Northwest DC. Brisbon was suffering from a stab wound to the neck and eventually died from his injuries.
According to charging documents in the case, a witness said he had been walking down the street having a verbal altercation with Dawkins, who the witness said he did not know.
Brisbon pulled up in a car and asked the witness if he was okay, causing Dawkins to begin arguing with Brisbon as well, according to charging documents. When the witness tried to intervene he noticed a silver pocket knife in Dawkins’ pocket and a stab wound in Brisbon’s neck.
The witness fled the scene and observed Brisbon crash his car into Shaws Tavern.
Another witness, who said he has known Dawkins for eight years, said he had had a conversation with Dawkins about the incident. Dawkins told the witness that he had asked Brisbon for a cigarette and Brisbon had refused, according to charging documents.
Dawkins then said Brisbon punched him in the face and when Brisbon looked like he was going to hit him again Dawkins stabbed him and fled.
[That’s not an accurate recounting of what the police affidavit says. It reports the witness claiming that the 6’4,” 220 lb. Dawkins had told him that he had walked up to Brisbon’s car and asked him for a cigarette, and Brisbon said he didn’t have any. Spying a pack on the seat, Dawkins reached into the window and grabbed it. Brisbon then slugged him, and got out of the car. Dawkins then allegedly said that he stabbed Brisbon in the neck, and ran away.
Although I have no idea as to the identity or credibility of the witness, the story in the affidavit sounds like a perfect example of the morally perverse sophistry of a black street criminal. Brisbon had every right to punch someone in the face to stop him from stealing his property, let alone someone 6’4” and 220 lbs.]
Dawkins is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 10.
