“(the guardian) a foggy, unseasonably cold morning in los angeles, the national guardsmen suddenly pressed into service by Donald Trump to quell what he called 'a rebellion' against his government were nothing if not ready for their close-up.

“outside a federal complex in downtown Los Angeles that includes a courthouse, a veterans’ medical centre, and a jail, two dozen guardsmen in camouflage uniforms were arrayed in front of their military vehicles with semi-automatic weapons slung over their shoulders for the benefit of television and news photographers clustered on the sidewalk.

“they stood with the visors of their helmets up so the reporters could see their faces. most wore shades, despite the gloomy weather, giving them the eerie appearance of extras from a Hollywood action movie more than shock troops for the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.

Just to clarify. The expressway is only half open. One direction is moving slowly, while the other side is closed--with scattered, abandoned police vehicles. The Fox reporter remarked, "the crowds are getting larger at 7:51 P.T."

Sunset is about 1 1/2 hours away.

Large numbers of people lined up on the upper roadway looking down. Some are throwing items that explode on contact with the police vehicles. One of the cars just caught fire and fire units, I assume, went quickly to put it out.

The reporter wondered why lapd was not clearing the bridge. california highway patrol appears to be on their own at this alameda area of the highway.

GRA: Last report of the night. In what resembles more a ragged parade, troublemakers trudged down Second St. ,looking to be about 15 people wide and a couple blocks long. It's dark out now. The reporter is very understated in his commentary.

“'that's tear gas,' or 'that's an attempted Molotov cocktail.' 'a fire set 100 yards from the lapd building.'”

Looked like a large campfire to me.

He also asks if the crew wants to switch cameras to a different area (Elvira Street, supposedly another mex-infested area).
