Lieber Blogmeister (Dear Blogmaster),

Are you sure that George Steinbrenner (aka “the Boss,” aka “Herr Steinbrenner”) and the President aren’t both the same man? (I am aware of the rumors, as to G.S.’ death.) Have you ever seen them in the same room together?

As for the BBB, when fakestats king, Bill Bratton was Rudy Giuliani’s police commissioner (1994-1996), while bringing about a (fake) revolution in policing, he played the media like a fiddle. I am sure he bad-talked his boss to them. And they gave Bratton all the credit for New York City’s “turnaround,” calling him “America’s Top Cop” on the cover of Time or Newsweek.

When Giuliani ran Bratton out of town, I concluded that Bratton had misunderstood his relationship to Hizzoner. When you do (or appear to do) a good job as police commissioner, it’s because your boss had your back. You, in turn, must stand back and give him all the credit. But Bratton is such an egomaniac that he refused to play by the rules. He wanted ALL the glory.

After Giuliani was forced out of office by term limits, which somehow didn’t apply to Bloomberg, Bratton talked, trial balloon-wise, to his media courtiers, about wanting to be mayor. But then somebody apparently whispered in his ear, “Sir, you have to get elected mayor, Sir.” And that ended that.
