“(zh) President Donald Trump’s administration has authorized 2,000 additional national guardsmen to deploy to los angeles as riots continue across the city, adding to the more than 2,000 already in the city.
“'at the order of the President, the department of defense is mobilizing an additional 2,000 california national guard to be called into federal service to support ice & to enable federal law-enforcement officers to safely conduct their duties,' Sean Parnell, the chief spokesperson [sic] for the pentagon, wrote in a post on x.
“as Joseph Lord reports for the epoch times, the announcement comes after Trump on saturday authorized 2,000 troops to deploy to the city without a request or cooperation from california gov. Gavin Newsom—the first time since 1965 that a president has done so.
“in a later statement, U.S. north american command announced that of those ordered to the city, around 1,700 are currently active as part of a coalition, dubbed task force 51, which also includes U.S. Marines that have been deployed to the city.
“but unless the insurrection act is designated, none of the guard can arrest anyone or be used as law enforcement."

• Strikes on Iran: Israel has launched unprecedented attack on Iran, targeting the heart of nation’s nuclear program and senior military leaders. The move plunges the Middle East into fresh uncertainty with the real risk of a wider regional war now breaking out.
• Nuclear facility: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel struck Iran’s main enrichment facility in Natanz, nuclear scientists and what he called “the heart of Iran’s ballistic missiles program.”
• Top commander killed: Iranian state media are reporting that General Hossein Samami, the commander-in-chief of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard was among those killed in the attacks.
• US position: There was no US involvement or US assistance in the strikes, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said. “Tonight, Israel took unilateral action against Iran. We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region,” he said in a statement.
