"Rep. Massie: '...the bigger way [pharmaceutical companies] have influence, I witnessed myself on the floor of the house one day when Paul Ryan was speaker, he was like, so on cloud 9 that I think he forgot he was talking to me. and he had just landed like six figures, maybe it was $150,000 or $200,000 donation, from Eli Lilly to his super pac... congressmen aren't driving Ferraris up here because some drug company bought them one...it's deeper than that....the drug companies, most rank and file congressmen, don't care who's sitting in that seat. they care who the speaker is. and the speaker decides which bills come to the floor. and so they focus all their money on the speaker's pac. and because they know he's gonna be the gatekeeper."

Overall the interview was the typical quality Sharyl Attkisson product. Imagine if CBS appreciated her work and if she was running 60 Minutes.
I do wish she had asked Massie - and pressed him hard - regarding his June 2023 vote for the $1.5 Trillion debt ceiling increase (a/k/a "The Greene New Deal", as in MTG, who slavishly promoted to it in service to Her Dear Kevin (McCarthy). Those nights at Kevin's place with Marjorie and Frank Luntz, were they really just playing Scrabble? hmmmmm?)
Massie actually voted for it TWICE: (1) in the Rules Committee, preventing it from even getting to the floor for a vote. Recall that Freedom Caucus got McCarthy to agree to appoint a critical number of them to the Rules Committee expressly for this kind of a situation. And (2) again on the floor.
I consider that debt ceiling hike to have been the moment of critical failure for the GOP House in the 2023-2024 session. Six months in, they could have stopped Biden/Harris cold by cutting off the funding to Ukraine, to DEI, to the J6 persecutors, all that garbage. But no, they signed the blank check, and they're still whining today about how Biden/Harris spent the money. What did they think he was going to spend it on? Fools! Damn fools!
If Massie holds fast against the onebiguglybill, I'll forgive him. Sort of. Maybe. We will see. That sh*t sandwich has $4 TRILLION of debt ceiling special sauce. Just like Mama Pelosi used to make.
The (R) in republican actually stands for "Rubber stamp" more spending. Trump wants more money blown. While some GOP conservatives are fighting the new budget, they will rubber stamp it as well(Trump threatening them about it.)
