TCM’s Film Noir of the Week is Woman on the Run (1950) Saturday Night at Midnight ET, starring Ann Sheridan in one of her best roles. Also with Dennis O’Keefe, Robert Keith, and Ross Elliott.
This was shown previously, after being “lost.” Ann Sheridan made it, hoping it would give her career a boost but it didn’t attract much attention when released.
This week, Woman on the Run gets only one showing Saturday Night, instead of the usual two showings.
The following is by David, and re-printed from April 19, 2019.

TCM's Film Noir of the Week Saturday Night-Sunday Morning at Midnight ET (and 10 a.m. ET Sunday Morning) is Woman on the Run (1950). Ann Sheridan stars, along with Dennis O'Keefe, Robert Keith, Ross Elliot, directed by Norman Foster.
Film Noir Guide: “Sheridan is a wife searching for her husband (Elliott), an artist who witnesses a vicious murder and is hiding from the police and the killer. The two haven’t been getting along very well lately, but Sheridan begins to discover long-lost feelings for her missing man. O’Keefe is a reporter who seems eager for the exclusive story, and Keith is the detective who has big problems keeping Sheridan in line. Sheridan does a great job as the tough, wisecracking protagonist, who always manages to stay one step ahead of the cops. There are some terrific daytime shots of San Francisco’s hilly streets, a scene or two that will make you jump out of your seat, and a climactic fight during a nighttime roller coaster ride. This minor film noir succeeds thanks to clever plot twists and an excellent cast.”
Woman on the Run had been a “lost” film that was “found” and restored by our friend Eddie Muller. Ann Sheridan had left Warner Brothers, tired of being the “Oomph girl.” She hoped this role, which fit her perfectly, would recharge her career, but it didn’t make much of a stir at the time.
Woman on the Run is a favorite of mine. Lots of story and action in a 77-minute running time.

EXCELLENT movie. Great camerawork by Hal Mohr (watch this back-to-back with THE LOST MOMENT (1947), another noir-ish gem that he photographed)!

The under-appreciated character actor Ross Elliott has a nice role as the missing husband.

The subtext of the story, the wife not appreciating her husband, is very effective- a good movie to watch with one's spouse!
Four stars!

TCM's Film Noir of the Week is on a one-month hiatus. During February TCM has its "31 Days of Oscar."
TCM's Film Noir of the Week Returns After a month's hiatus for Academy Award films.
This week Saturday Night-Sunday Morning at 12:30 and 10 a.m. ET is John Gage's The Velvet Touch (1948) with Rosalind Russell, Leo Genn, Claire Trevor, Sydney Greenstreet, Leo Ames.
Film Noir Guide: "Russell plays a stage actress who kills her former lover, Broadway producer Ames, by clubbing him with a statuette when he threatens to ruin her career and her relationship with her new boyfriend (Genn). It seems she's gotten away with murder when one of her co-stars (Trevor), Ames former girlfriend, gets the blame."
"Guilt-stricken, Russell also must endure the constant pressure of a jocular, food-loving detective (Greenstreet). Russell does a good job as the comedienne with a yen to be a dramatic actress, and Greenstreet is enjoyable as the portly police captain. Look for former screen Tarzan Lex Barker in a small role as Russell's leading man, and Martha Hyer as an understudy."
