TCM’s Film Noir of the Week Saturday Night-Sunday Morning at 12:15 and 10 a.m. ET is Federico Fellini’s Without Pity (1948), with John Kitzmiller and Carla Del Poggio

Kitzmiller plays a black G.I. who stayed in Italy after World War II and falls in love with an Italian girl (Poggio). Kitzmiller turns down a deal with Italian gangsters but decides to go through with it to keep Poggio from turning to prostitution.

Kitzmiller is best known for playing Quarrel in Dr. No (1962), the first James Bond film. He was a black G.I., who in real life stayed in Italy after the war and became an actor in Italian films. Without Pity is billed as Italian “neo-realism.”

It's just as new to me, too, GRA. But "neo-realism" was very hot then, and Fellini was very young.

neo·re·al·ism ˌnē-ō-ˈrē-ə-ˌli-zəm. : a movement especially in Italian filmmaking characterized by the simple direct depiction of lower-class life.

GRA:And you can't get any lower than blacks. Imagine the fun Fellini would have making movies about them in 2025.

The good part is,we can cut out the movie crap interpretations and just read NSU/WEJB for accurate "depictions of lower class life."

It was made by Warner Brothers with a TV director and actors. Ty Hardin and Robert Culp played JFK's friends, Lenny Thom and Barney Ross.
