[N.S.: I want it on the record that I never watched Seinfeld for Seinfeld, who was the least funny member of the cast.]
“(usatoday) Jerry Seinfeld is standing down.
“during a Tuesday appearance on the breaking bread with Tom Papa podcast, the comedian, 70, said he regrets arguing that the ‘extreme left’ is killing comedy, and doesn’t believe this is the case. the comments were first reported by the daily beast.
“‘I said that the extreme left has suppressed the art of comedy,’ he said. ‘I did say that. it’s not true.
“he went on to say, ‘I don’t think the extreme left has done anything to inhibit the art of comedy. I’m taking that back now officially. they have not. do you like it,? Maybe, maybe not. it’s not my business to like or not like where the culture is at.
[N.S.: No, that would be the job of a comedian, which you obviously aren’t, Jerry!]
“Seinfeld argued it’s a comedian's job to adapt to the culture, and he dismissed concerns that ‘you can’t say certain words" today, asking, ‘so, what?’”
GRA: Because the more you constrain free speech, the less you are allowed to be humorous about ANYTHING. As far as “adapting” to society, how many comedians are there in russia or china? We used to have hundreds of comics in the pre-2010s, going back to the 1930s. America is at its best, when it can laugh at life—which is basically, people. When “people” and their tendencies are deigned to be “off limits,” comedy is no more—and “tendencies” includes physical traits and racial jokes—of all nationalities and ethnicities. As Rickles used to say, “I insult everyone equally,” which was true, he joked about blacks AND Jews. poles and puerto ricans. Today he’d have material about arabs.
“Do you know how you can tell you have too many Arabs in your city? They have a designated camel lane. It's true—the other day, I was driving, I had to call a tow truck to get my car pulled out of a pile of camel s**t.”
We don’t laugh enough, which affects mental health—and now Jerry Seinfeld has caved in to the left. There are only a few comedians around anyways—in five years or so, comedy will officially be dead—like America.

Thanks, GRA.
No, Jerry, say it isn't so. Elaine and George got to you? Why cave in to that crowd?
Maybe Kramer went out the right way after all.
George Carlin is so easily forgotten,Jerry?Going back, even Groucho Marx mocked "society",but many comedians were liberal comics--from the late 60s on--who put a target on conservative's backs with their observations. Mort Sahl was known for it,Richard Pryor ripped on Whites constantly,Eddie Murphy followed with in concert racist attacks. Letterman became very liberal in his later years and tore into "Dubya" bush(deservedly and hilariously),by showing almost daily clips of him talking worse than biden. He now hates Trump.
Johnny Carson battered both sides famously.
And now it's full fledged democoms on every show(I don't find Gutfeld that entertaining, though I've tried).
