Gill left behind his wife, Kristina, and three grown children. Vasquez left behind two young children. His marital status was unknown, as of press time.

The killer was Artell Cunningham, 28, evil and black. Cunningham also murdered Alberto Vasquez, 35. In 2021, Cunningham had threatened to murder D.C. policemen, but was issued a free crime. Cunningham committed suicide-by-cop the day after murdering Alberto Vasquez and shooting Mike Gill (who was then still clinging to life).
