YANKEES STUN METS AT YANKEE STADIUM 1-0 IN 10 INNINGS,AS DOUBLE PERFECT GAME ENDS ON WALKOFF HR
It had to end sometime--unfortunately,a double perfect game,in an incredible opener of the faux 2020 World Series--but as so often happens in games such as these, they tend to be decided in a breathtaking, quick conclusion and tonights masterpiece was no different,as in the bottom of the 10th inning,a first pitch, line drive home run by Gary Sanchez, off of Mike Wacha, brought a shocking end to this historic contest.

The sellout crowd,of over 56,000,stood for 20 minutes after the game--cheering and applauding.

Jacob deGrom and Gerrit Cole simply did not allow contact tonight and in one hour 28 minutes, nine complete innings were played with zero base runners detected on the field during that time.

There WERE,however,44 strikeouts observed--23 by Cole, against the feared Mets lineup, while deGrom's 21 Ks would have been incredible on any other night in Fall Classic history.

Both pitchers asserted, afterwards, that they "had never had better stuff" in their careers.
No one could disagree.

The opener brought festivities and former Yankee greats out for the pregame ceremonies, including Derek Jeter, Don Mattingly,Ron Guidry and Paul O'Neill with a remembrance for Whitey Ford.

Both teams were allowed guest coaches for the series--and manager Nicholas Stix, for game one, chose Jerry Koosman, while Yanks skipper Joe Torre named Andy Petitte.

But neither Koosman or Petitte(or anyone else) had ever come close to being involved in a game like this one--and the Mets first loss in 12 games, left them trailing in this series--with game two scheduled for Thursday night.

Noah Snydergaard(20-9,2.11 ERA)and Masahiro Tanaka(18-6,1.95 ERA) are listed for game two--where anything less than perfection--will be a letdown to some.
