Seemed like the healthiest guy alive 40 years ago.Pitched for my team,the White Sox and very capably.Always sad to hear news like this.You want great athletes to live a long time,but unfortunately,in Tom Seaver's case,not to be.

Two times that Tom left Mets' fans,involuntarily--in 1977 and today.Great players leaving the teams they started with,because of trade,feels like a death of sorts,to followers of those teams.Of course,those were different times.Today,we have blm b.s.in the end zone to look forward to and free agency.

I remember when the Mets traded Tom Seaver, a big mistake, as Seaver went on to several good years in Cincinnati.
Some stories are recalling his salary dispute that led to the trade. Supposedly the last straw was a Dick Young (remember him?) column saying Seaver was jealous of Nolan Ryan making more money.
Dick Young often took potshots at Tom Seaver.
Passed away from dementia triggered by Lyme disease. Lyme disease has ZERO funding or research due to the fact it primarily affects white people living in rural areas.

Athletic ability does not seem to be an indicator of longevity.
