Film Noir Guide: “Convict Bridges, serving time for counterfeiting, is set free to help the Secret Service find the gang that’s using his old counterfeit plates. Bridges escapes the T-men, foolishly thinking he’s pulled a fast one, but it’s all part of the agents’ plan, as is their surveillance of his girlfriend (Payton).
“Hoyt, who was usually typecast as a gangster or an evil Nazi, is the Treasury agent who goes undercover to gain Bridges’ trust and to nab Todd, the head of the ring. Bridges was always terrific as a bad guy, and though he’s not quite as despicable here as in Try and Get Me, he still elicits his share of hisses.
“Despite its similarities to T-Men, Trapped stands on its own as a suspenseful and well-plotted noir.

N.S. As David is fond of pointing out, Richard Fleischer (1917-2006) could pack action into a 67-minute B-movie like nobody’s business. And late in his career, with bigger budgets and longer running times to work with, he helmed some classic movies: Fantastic Voyage (1966), The Boston Strangler (1968), and Soylent Green (1973). He also was guilty of making blaxploitation trash (Mandingo, 1975, which Quentin Tarantino studied for his Ph.D. in black history).

Here's something about Trump's win which has the potential to cost people like myself a lot of money--natural gas.
Since his victory,the price of natgas has spiked from 2.50 to 3.55,a 40% increase in 2 weeks. Why? Trump says he wants to sell more of it to Europe,while biden's policy was to keep that to a minimum. This kept our prices low. Years ago,natgas got up to over 8.00 per cubic foot,which translated to huge winter heating bills.
Incoming cold weather is also affecting the price. All the forecasts for this winter indicated a warmer than normal one for each of the three months of December,January and February. If that's true,prices of natgas will come down,but if wrong--plus Trump's policy--we might be seeing some gigantic increases in our bills very soon. DTE,in my state,never hesitates to pass those higher prices along ASAP.

Numerous friends and colleagues have sent me the January 16 New York Times op-ed by the Center for Immigration Studies’ Jerry Kammer excerpted below. Some of the hardest men I know are going ga-ga over it. Old immigration hands, who were breaking bread with the late John Tanton (1934-2019), may he rest in peace, when I was barely out of diapers. Friends of mine who have seen the border.
When you see that someone has managed to get a piece of the Times’ op-ed page, what should your initial response be? Right. Reach for your wallet with one hand, and your gun with the other. What should your second response be? Fire!
Ask yourself, Would the Times ever run an op-ed by Peter Brimelow on immigration? Did it ever run one by John Tanton?
What do you think of “compromise” on immigration “reform”? What sort of thoughts do claims that there are “11 million” illegal human beings, make that “unauthorized immigrants,” presently residing on American soil inspire in you?
The real numbers of illegal human beings on American soil are between 24 million and 55 million.
A 2018 Yale University study concluded that there are roughly 22 million illegals on American soil. In a 2014 interview I conducted with Fred Elbel, the old immigration hand who runs the Colorado Alliance for Immigration Reform (CAIRCO), Elbel guesstimated that there were already at least 50 million illegals here. The thing about such estimates is that if you overestimate the number of illegal human beings in your country, there’s no cost, but if you underestimate them, it could cost you your country. Kammer writes as if this were 1985, or even 1964, and he’s Ted Kennedy.
Granted, he does recount his experience in 2001 of being present at a soiree in which Left and Right were gleefully conspiring to destroy the country through mass third-world immigration.
He recalls statements made years ago by leading Democrats like Walter Mondale and Hillary Clinton about how impoverished, Third-World immigrants were bringing mass poverty to America.
And he says nice things abut the American working class.
He even notes that in the 1986 INA amnesty, the Open Borders Lobby got what it wanted, but the patriots who compromised with them got nothing.
“This mismatch of political influence, combined with the social and fiscal consequences of a wave of low-skilled immigrants, led me to believe that immigration should be restricted so that its power to invigorate our country is not eclipsed by its potential to harm workers. I think immigration, like capitalism itself, should be regulated in the national interest, not shaped to serve the free-market libertarianism of the right or the post-national humanitarianism of the left.

Here’s where things go off the rails. After Kammer admits that the 1986 compromise was a wholly one-sided deal, and emphasizes his support of the American working class, he calls for…another amnesty dwarfing INA!
This is Lucy-Charlie Brown stuff here.
First of all, the Open Borders Lobby owes all American patriots an immigration moratorium, while the patriots owe the open borders zealots nothing.
The 1986 Reagan (Simpson-Mazzoli) Amnesty has cost white American taxpayers trillions of dollars, and will cost us trillions more in perpetuity; it has cost us the rule of law; and the economic dispossession and legal disenfranchisement of white Americans. We still have ever more chain migration and anchor babies.
“I disagree with some of the center’s [CIS’] hard-line [?!] positions. I favor a generous welcome for those who were brought here illegally as children and support comprehensive reform that would reprise the 1986 amnesty-plus-enforcement compromise. But restrictionists are right to insist that any new reform must guarantee work-site controls. They also make valid points in pushing for a system of legal immigration like the one developed by Canada, which favors people with education and skills.”
But Kammer’s “generous welcome” would go to at least ten million illegals, right off the bat, plus at least another 40 million of their “relatives,” through chain migration, plus millions of anchor babies. In other words, it’s a nation-breaking amnesty.
How could any immigration reformer fall for such a load of hooey?
Kammer’s essay runs 1,444 words, an eternity for an op-ed, much of which he used to build up his credibility as a restrictionist, only to smuggle in the big con. Maybe some of my friends read his thing superficially, after he threw them a bone or two, or even stopped reading at that point.
There are actually some great people at CIS, but I won’t praise them by name, because I don’t want them to get into trouble for being associated with yours truly.
The organization’s bosses, however, Mark Krikorian and Steven Camarota, are notorious for triangulating, in order to get table scraps from leftwing media organizations, but no matter how much they beg for respectability, treason groups like the SPLC will always whip them with the “hate group” label.
We don’t need another mass amnesty, we need a moratorium on all net legal immigration, a wall, and to send the criminals of all ages and their anchor babies home.

But not with deportations. He would send a detachment of fbi agents, backed up by a few hundred national guard troops, to arrest mayor Mike Johnston. If the denver pd backed up Johnston, then they would have to arrest affirmative action police chief Ron Thomas, as well, and any denver cops who sought to aid and abet him.
If the President-elect backs down from Johnston, then we'll know that Trump is a straw man.

monday, november 18: “(cnn) around 8:22 a.m., Lata Landi, 36, of Peekskill, new york, was standing in front of a construction site near Chelsea when a ‘light-skinned man’ with a beard approached him and stabbed him in the abdomen, police said. he was transported to Bellevue hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“more than two hours later, at around 10:25 a.m., a second person was stabbed, police said. the victim, a 67-year-old male [Chang Wang], was fishing near the east river when he was attacked and stabbed multiple times in the abdomen. police initially said the victim was 68 years old in an earlier update.
“he was transported to Bellevue hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity was still pending family notification, according to the nypd.
“then, at around 10:55 a.m., a 36-year-old woman, later identified as Wilma Augustin, was stabbed multiple times in the chest and left arm near the united nations headquarters, police said. she was transported to new york Presbyterian/Weill Cornell medical center, where she later succumbed to her injuries [sic].

Rivera’s eight prior arrests were seven felonies and one misdemeanor and he was involved in two incidents in which police encountered him as an emotionally disturbed person, according to police records.
Based on those two incidents, Rivera was taken to a hospital for further mental evaluation and was discharged.
The suspect, arrested in a string of burglaries, larcenies and an assault on a corrections officer in jail, was sentenced to a year in jail and, based on police records, it appears he served eight months of that before he was let out on supervised release.

In his new biography Being Nixon: A Man Divided, Evan Thomas concedes a point. Richard Nixon, he writes, "was not paranoid; the press and the 'Georgetown set' really were out to get him."
Carl Bernstein's review found Thomas' book deficient in its failure to chronicle the "endemic criminality" of the Nixon presidency.
Yet, recent revelations suggest that "endemic criminality" is a phrase that might well be applied to the newsroom of The Washington Post when Bob Woodward and Bernstein worked there.
Consider. In All the President’s Men, Woodward and Bernstein admit that, in collusion with Post editors and with the approval of Post lawyers, they approached half a dozen Watergate grand jurors.
Admitting this was a “seedy venture,” they assured us no grand juror had violated his or her oath, and they got nothing.
Yet, from recent books by Jeff Himmelman about Ben Bradlee, Max Holland about Mark Felt, a.k.a. “Deep Throat,” and Geoff Shepard’s The Real Watergate Scandal: Collusion, Conspiracy, and the Plot That Brought Nixon Down, out today, the truth is otherwise.
Woodward and Bernstein deceived us about not breaching the grand jury.
They had. The source identified in their book as “Z,” a “woman ... in a position to have considerable knowledge of the secret activities of the White House and CRP [Committee to Re-Elect the President]” was a grand juror.
Notes of Bernstein’s conversation with this woman were found by Himmelman in Bradlee’s files. Post editor Barry Sussman also told Alan Pakula, who made the movie starring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman, that Carl had breached the grand jury.
What does this tell us?
Woodward and Bernstein lied for four decades in denying their success in breaching the grand jury. And Bradlee knew they had been lying.
When Post lawyer Edward Bennett Williams had his ex parte contact with old friend Judge John Sirica, to put the fix in and get the judge not to expose or punish Woodward and Bernstein, Williams almost surely knew the reporters were lying.
In his memoir, Judge Sirica reveals what he would have done had Bernstein and Woodward gotten a grand juror to violate his oath:
"Had they actually obtained information from that grand juror, they would have gone to jail."Thus, Woodward and Bernstein, with the collusion of Post editors and lawyers, got a grand juror to violate her oath and spill secrets. Then Bradlee got E. B. Williams, godfather to Sirica's daughter, to put the fix in with that compliant judge, and all of them covered up the conspiracy.
While pursuing Nixon, the “Georgetown set” was hiding the same sort of mendacities and obstruction of justice that got Nixon’s men prison time.
Nor does it stop there.
As we discovered a decade ago, “Deep Throat,” whose moniker came from a dirty movie, was FBI Deputy Director Mark Felt.
In giving Woodward information from witness testimony to the grand jury, Felt was violating his oath and engaged in criminal misconduct, which, exposed, would have gotten him fired in disgrace and put in prison, and Woodward implicated as the beneficiary of his crimes.
Woodward and Bernstein benefited mightily from the fruits of Felt's criminality, getting a Pulitzer for the Post, and having their careers made by collusion with this corrupt civil servant and serial lawbreaker.
The subtitle of the new paperback of All the President’s Men is, “The Greatest Reporting Story of All Time.”Excuse me, but how much reporting does it take to scribble down notes from Mark Felt telling you who said what to the grand jury that day?

What was Felt’s motivation in leaking grand jury secrets to Woodward? Max Holland's book Leak tells the story.
Felt sought to cast acting FBI Director Pat Gray, an honorable man, as an incompetent who could not keep secrets. This would result in Gray being passed over for permanent director. With the FBI top job open, President Nixon would likely turn to—Deputy Director Mark Felt.

Of all the Watergate offenses of the Nixon White House, the “Huston Plan” is often called the most terrifying. And what was the plan worked up by my old friend Tom Charles Huston in 1970?
After Black Panthers began murdering cops and a Greenwich Village bomb factory—where an anti-personnel bomb was being prepared to massacre non-commissioned officers and their dates at a dance at Fort Dix—blew up, Huston, with CIA, National Security Agency and Defense Intelligence Agency backing, urged the reinstatement of FBI practices used fromFDR to LBJ.

monday, november 18: “(cnn) around 8:22 a.m., Lata Landi, 36, of Peekskill, new york, was standing in front of a construction site near Chelsea when a ‘light-skinned man’ with a beard approached him and stabbed him in the abdomen, police said. he was transported to Bellevue hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“more than two hours later, at around 10:25 a.m., a second person was stabbed, police said. the victim, a 67-year-old male [Chang Wang], was fishing near the east river when he was attacked and stabbed multiple times in the abdomen. police initially said the victim was 68 years old in an earlier update.

The suspect, arrested in a string of burglaries, larcenies and an assault on a corrections officer in jail, was sentenced to a year in jail and, based on police records, it appears he served eight months of that before he was let out on supervised release.

It was also revealed that Neely had sickle cell syndrome, which dr. harris rejected as being a contributor in the cause of death.
Defense witness testimony started late monday and is expected to end by Thanksgiving.
My opinion: When the medical examiner is onboard with the prosecution in such an unabashed manner, it makes the case difficult for the defense to win. Their opinion carries a lot of weight—even if it’s erroneous in its conclusion (see Chauvin case).

My opinion: When the medical examiner is onboard with the prosecution in such an unabashed manner, it makes the case difficult for the defense to win. Their opinion carries a lot of weight—even if it’s erroneous in its conclusion (see Chauvin case).
