3 fatally shot at Michigan Courthouse
by Kevin White
JOSEPH, Mich. (WOOD) – Three people have been fatally shot and one injured in a shooting at the Berrien County Courthouse in Southwest Michigan, according to a county commissioner.
The commissioner confirmed to 24 Hour News 8 that two of the victims are courthouse employees and the other fatality, an inmate who was in custody at the time of the shooting, was the shooter.
The severity of the surviving victim’s injuries is unknown.
The shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. at the courthouse, which is located on Port Street in St. Joseph.
The courthouse is still on lockdown, but the scene is secure, the commissioner confirmed.
An apparent witness posted video outside the courthouse earlier Monday afternoon to Facebook Live, showing a heavy police presence.

Update: Monday, 12:17 p.m. -- Detroit Police detective Nathan Weekley, who posted an anti-Black Lives Matter comment on Facebook on Friday, has been demoted, Katrease Stafford of the Detroit Free Press reports.
"I became aware the night of the posting on social media," Chief James Craig said at a press conference on Monday. "And once becoming aware of it I notified my team so we could have a discussion. And based on the preliminary discussion assessment of it, Detective Weekley has been de-appointed down from the ranking of detective to police officer and he has been reassigned and we have opened an internal investigation into the matter."

A Report From This morning
A Detroit cop's anti-Black Lives Matter comment on Facebook is causing a stir.
Simon Shaykhet of WXYZ reports that Detroit police have launched an internal investigation into a comment posted on Facebook Friday by Detroit Police Detective Nathan Weekley in response to the Dallas police shootings:
"For the first time in my nearly 17 years as a law enforcement officer I contemplated calling into work in response to the outrageous act perpetrated against my brothers. It seems like the only response that will demonstrate our importance to society as a whole. The only racists here are the piece of (expletive) Black Lives Matter terrorists and their supporters."
Weekley's brother is Joseph Weekley, the former Detroit SWAT who shot and killed Aiyana Jones in May 2010 during a failed raid on Detroit's east side. He was charged in the death, but two trials ended in a hung jury. He faces two civil cases.
Weekley declined to comment, WXYZ reports.--GRA
