Mets Beat Cubs 5-2, to Go Ahead 3-0 in National League Championship Series!

By Nicholas Stix

Righthander Jacob deGrom got the win, his third of the playoffs this year, after a rocky first inning, in which he threw 28 pitches, and gave up a home run to the Cubs’ Kyle Shwarber. The Mets’ Jeurys Familia threw a perfect ninth inning for his third save in this series, closing every game so far. The Mets’ Daniel Murphy hit another home run, his fifth in five straight games. The Mets’ big trade deadline acquisition, Yoenis Cespedes, got three hits (as did David Wright), knocked in two, and scored one.

The Cubs now have their backs against the wall, in the best-of-seven series.
