Behind a Two-Hitter by (Near) Trade Deadline Acquisition Johnny Cueto, Kansas City Jumps Out to 2-0 Lead, with a 7-1 Drubbing of the Mets

By Nicholas Stix

The Mets' two hits were soft singles by Lucas Duda. Mets ace Jacob deGrom and their bullpen both got beaten up by the Royals’ hitters, whom Mets hurlers could not put away with two strikes.

The series will return to New York on Friday, with hard-throwing righthanders Noah “Thor” Syndegaard on the mound for the home team, and Yordano Ventura for the visitors.
