If you’ve never seen Rodney before, you’ll think, “This guy’s telling every joke he’s got.”
Three or four years before his 2004 death, at 82, I saw Dangerfield on TV, performing at some sort of roast. He seemed ageless, and he killed. He rattled off about 20 jokes, every one of them hilarious, and none of which I’d heard before. Although he was supposedly a very insecure man, he wasn’t that night. At the end of his routine, he was snapping his fingers, and proclaiming, “I got a million of ‘em!”

"Why don't you call me sometime when you have no class!"
Unforgettable. Legendary.
He was able to mock himself for our amusement because his inner character was so very resilient.
