HOUSTON -
A would-be crook is dead after police say his intended target fought back.
According to the Houston Police Department, at around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, a married couple was parking their car across the street from the Chymistry Bar & Lounge at Almeda-Genoa Road and Monarch Street.
"It's not owned by the club for my understanding, but it is used by the club for parking, excess parking," said Travis Miller with Houston Police Department's homicide division. "When their lot is full they tell people to come over here and park on this lot and have security the patrols both lots."
When the couple got out of their car, a man approached them, pulled out a gun and demanded their belongings and cash, officers say. The husband turned the tables on the crook and pulled out his own weapon.
"They were confronted by the suspect who attempted to rob them," Miller said. "The man shot in self defense and killed the suspect there in the parking lot."
The husband's case will be referred to a grand jury, but homicide detectives do not believe any charges will be filed.
The husband and wife were not hurt.

In Texas, anyone who is messing with the property of someone else during hours of darkness is legally subject to having lethal force used against them. As it was from the days of the Old West. Horse rustlers and all that.
If station KPRC is committed to minorities as on-camera staff, is it too much to ask that English is spoken? To wit:
"...a man says he was protecting he [sic] and his wife ..."
