Whatever Happened to the Movie that Legendary NYPD Detective Randy Jurgensen was Making about Nation of Islam Leader Louis Farrakhan’s Murder of New York City Policeman Philip Cardillo?

War criminal Louis Farrakhan, who had Patrolman Cardillo murdered in April, 1972. (Farrakhan had one of his assassins shoot Cardillo on April 14; the patrolman hung on for six days, before succumbing to his wounds.)

I thank my partner-in-crime, David in TN, for this story. Randy Jurgensen’s IMDB page currently shows absolutely nothing about this project.

Legendary New York detective Randy Jurgensen — who was a consultant on “The French Connection” and “Donnie Brasco,” as well as the inspiration for Al Pacino’s character in the 1980 film “Cruising” — is coming back to the big screen, Page Six has learned.

Jurgensen’s 2006 book, “Circle of Six: The True Story of New York’s Most Notorious Cop Killer and the Cop Who Risked Everything to Catch Him,” about his investigation of the infamous Harlem mosque incident in 1972, has been adapted as a feature by veteran “Law & Order: SVU” writer Jonathan Greene.

Tod “Kip” Williams, whose credits include “Paranormal Activity 2,” will direct.

Greene was spotted with Jurgensen, Williams and Joseph Pistone (the former FBI agent who worked undercover as Donnie Brasco) scouting locations for the film after breakfast together in Greenwich Village.

We hear Michael Tadross’ company, which was behind “Sherlock Holmes” and “Die Hard: With a Vengeance,” is producing.

Jurgensen’s book follows the true story of the 1972 incident in which cops were summoned to a Nation of Islam mosque by a phony 911 call and attacked. Officer Phillip Cardillo was shot at point-blank range with his own gun.

Jurgensen was lead detective on a case that involved taking on the militant Black Liberation Army, as well as Mayor John Lindsay’s City Hall, to find the killer. Pistone provided key leads.

The project is in early development, but with Pistone’s involvement, sources wonder whether Johnny Depp might reprise his “Donnie Brasco” role. Casting could start soon. After scouting ¬locations for the hot project, Pistone headed straight to the airport to fly to Italy for another production.

Supercop Jurgensen’s undercover work investigating a series of 1960s gay murders by a pair of killers who dressed as cops became William Friedkin’s “Cruising” with Pacino. Scott Bakula also played a Jurgensen-inspired character in the 1992 NBC movie “In the Shadow of a Killer.”

The IMDB pages for Greene and Williams have nothing about a Circle of Six movie either. Nothing was said in the New York Post piece about studio backing.

By contrast, there's been a bare bones page at IMDB for the (unreiable) Cohen-Sanders book on the Zebra Murders, only Jamie Foxx is listed. There have been no updates since 2008. Dreamworks had picked it up, but nothing has happened.

There is something on the Cohen-Sanders project at www.comingsoon.net/movie/the-zebra-murders-a-season-of-killing-racial-madness-and-civil-rights. Note the comments, some good ones. The thread has been there for 7-8 years.
