[A note to my regular readers: While working on a book manuscript on crime in “America,” I completely forgot about the time, until I looked up and saw that it was 12:16 a.m. And so, instead of posting as much as possible prior to the witching hour, I am beginning after the witching hour. At least, I managed to post one item during the day, so that there’s something for December 27.]

Best of luck on your manuscript. The next four years should be a more receptive time for a hard boiled, exquisitely written crime book than the last four years.

Thanks, GRA. Most of it will be editorial work on previously published articles, but this part is the opening chapter, which is original, though not out of nowhere. It's all about crime and race, and race and crime.
