Killer, Dr. Henry Bello, shot his victims with an M-16 rifle which he’d hidden under a long coat; it is not clear whether he used the rifle or a handgun to kill himself. Bello’s corpse was found near that of a woman he’d murdered. Don’t be surprised if Bello was a “former employee,” because he’d been fired, due to a sexual harassment complaint by the vic he murdered. My hunch is that he was yet another African immigrant, possibly form Nigeria. (I found a Linked In page with his name that said nothing but “Nigeria.” No pic.)

Gunman opens fire inside Bronx hospital, multiple people shot

A man with a doctor’s coat and a rifle opened fire on multiple floors of a Bronx hospital Friday afternoon, killing one woman and injuring up to six people, sources said.

The shooter, Henry Bello, is a former employee at Bronx Lebanon Hospital, according to sources.

Bello went on a shooting spree around 3 p.m., opening fire on five floors of the hospital, sources said. There was an explosion on another floor, sources said.

Three of the victims are doctors, according to the New York Times.

As a gunman opened fire, people inside hid in place as authorities searched for the gunman.

“What do you do when you hospital has shooter in it,” @herrydrk posted on Instagram, with a photo showing her door boarded up with a chair and and [sic] garbage can.

She later took a selfie in the same room, with the caption, “Nice start of the weekend.”

Another Instagram user, @bodonf, posted a video in Spanish calling himself “just a guy stuck in a room in the hospital.”

He said was told to stay put while the hospital was placed on lockdown.

Two men were killed and seven others — including a 13-year-old girl — were wounded in seven separate shootings in Baltimore on Thursday, according to police, pushing the city’s 2017 homicide count to 170.

The shootings occurred across the city’s west side, beginning shortly after midnight early Thursday morning and continuing late into the night.

Mary Lassiter, 79, was brushing her teeth shortly before 9:30 a.m. Thursday when she heard the shots from the first of the two fatal shootings.

Outside, at the corner of Arunah Avenue and North Bentalou Street in Midtown-Edmondson, a 40-year-old man had been shot multiple times. Paramedics from the Engine 36 fire station across the street immediately went to his aid, neighbors said, but he died.

“I’ve never seen nothing like it,” Lassiter, who has lived in the neighborhood for 53 years, said of the recent pace of violence. “It’s getting too close for comfort. You want to stay in your home and neighborhood, but the young people make it so hard. They don’t have no regard for the neighbors, the community, the kids.”

Police on Friday identified the victim as Kamal Thomas, of the 200 block of East Street.

About nine hours before, and little more than a mile away, a 13-year-old girl was shot in the cheek and leg in a triple shooting that also left two women — ages 32 and 35 — with gunshot wounds to the back, police said.

In that shooting, the first of the day, a dark vehicle pulled up at the corner of Myrtle Avenue and Smithson Street in Upton about 12:15 a.m. and a gunman inside began shooting. The women and the girl were all listed in good condition later Thursday, police said.

The incident left residents in the neighborhood shaken.

Joy Abdullah, 32, a mother of four, said the shooting — which she didn’t see — was another indication of the harsh environment city children face each day. “That’s supposed to be a playground,” she said, pointing to an overgrown, trash-strewn grassy lot across the street from the small court on Smithson where she lives. “Give these kids something to do, other than just summer jobs. Give them a better environment. When they get a better environment, they’ll be better members of society.”

[White parents don’t demand summer jobs for their kids. But maybe they ought to. Black “parents” demand them, which white parents paying for black kids, and thus having less money for their own kids, and then the black “parents” demand more. The “environment” Joy Abdullah speaks of is a euphemism for the people. But if the whites she expects to magically transform the “environment” with endless streams of white taxpayers’ money seek to do something about the “environment,” she’ll be the first to scream “racism!”]

About 2 a.m. Thursday, a 24-year-old man walked into a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his hand, police said.

Police said they learned the man was leaving a bar on Edmondson Avenue when a man approached and attempted to rob him. A struggle broke out, and at some point, the victim grabbed a handgun the robber had pulled from his waistband. The gun fired twice, striking the victim’s hand, police said. The robber ran from the scene, police said.

About 1:40 p.m., a 25-year-old man was found suffering from gunshot wounds in the 2200 block of Christian St. in the city’s Carrollton Ridge neighborhood, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. On Friday, police identified him as Marquette Hall, of the 6900 block of Dunman Way.

About 15 minutes later, police responded to an alley in the rear of the 3400 block of Garrison Blvd. in the city’s Dorchester neighborhood for a reported shooting, finding an 18-year-old man with gunshot wounds to the legs. An unnamed male suspect with blood-stained clothing has been taken into custody and a firearm has been recovered, police said.

Another man was found shot in the back in the 300 block of South Fulton Avenue around 9:30 p.m. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

About 11:05 p.m., a 39-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds in the 900 block of E. Patapsco Avenue, in South Baltimore. The man was in critical condition as of Friday morning, police said.

At the edge of the fatal shooting scene near the Midtown-Edmondson fire station, Rene Smith, 59, sat with family members on her porch.

“Something needs to be done more than is being done,” she said. “They need to bring the National Guard in, knock the vacants down, and collect all the weapons. It’s terrible. When is it going to stop?”

Smith said she didn’t witness the shooting but saw paramedics from across the street run up and start treating the victim on the corner.
Blair Skinner, a spokeswoman for the Fire Department, deferred all questions about the paramedics’ swift response to police, even though paramedics are Fire Department employees. T.J. Smith, a police spokesman, did not respond to requests for comment on the response.

She said it’s not the neighbors, many of whom are older, who are causing trouble, but young people passing through who somehow get their hands on guns and are all too willing to use them.

Police Officer Miguel Moreno was shot and killed as he and his partner attempted to contact two subjects near the intersection of Evergreen Street and Howard Street at approximately 3:00 pm.

The officers observed the men near a car that appeared to have been broken into. As they stopped to speak to the subjects one of the men immediately opened fire, striking Officer Moreno in the head and his partner in the torso. Despite his wounds, Officer Moreno's partner was able to pull him out of the line of fire and then returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect.

The second subject was taken into custody. Officer Moreno was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his wound the following morning.

Officer Moreno had served with the San Antonio Police Department for nine years.

Why the Jews are Losing the War on College Campuses

A failure to brand the American accomplices of terrorism

According to a recent study conducted by the “Brand Israel Group,” support for Israel among Jewish college students has dropped 27% in the last 6 years. This mirrors a smaller but still significant drop in support among Americans generally, from 76% to 62%. According to Fern Oppenheim, the founder of the Brand Israel Group that conducted the survey, the source of this drop is the perceived lack of shared values between college students and the Jewish state. The same study found that 1 in 3 Jewish students reported anti-Semitic incidents on their campuses. Of these, 59% said that the incidents were related to anti-Israel attitudes. To explain this, Oppenheim blamed a political “atmosphere” on campus that divides the world into oppressor groups and victims, Israel being a symbol of the former.

“We are allowing Israel to be defined by its detractors,” Oppenheim warned, which is unfortunately true. But her proposed remedy to step up efforts to brand Israel as not only a tolerant society but, in fact, the helper of victims, even of its enemies is flawed. To support her strategy, Oppenheim offers the case of Ismail Haniyeh, a leader of Hamas, the terrorist organization sworn to destroy Israel and exterminate its Jews. Oppenheim observes that Haniyeh sent his ill granddaughter to Israel to receive medical treatment because he knew “Israel is too decent to turn her away,” and says: “People need to know this.”

Perhaps they do. But this is clearly not the solution to the problem. If it were, Ismail Haniyeh would have left Hamas and joined Israel’s supporters. Re-branding Israel alone is not the answer to a propaganda war, based on genocidal lies, whose goal is Israel’s destruction. The only viable solution is to do what Jewish organizations have so far refused to do: brand the American supporters of Hamas and the campus promoters of its lies as terrorist enablers and allies.

The strategy of merely promoting Israel’s good deeds, while pretending that Hamas’s American supporters are merely misinformed, is failing for a simple reason: If you are accused of stealing other people’s land, imprisoning them in Gaza-size ghettos, and segregating them by race, the fact that you are sending humanitarian missions to Haiti and other needy cases or providing medical care to your mortal enemies is not going to exculpate you in the eyes of people who have been seduced by Palestinian lies. In their eyes, you are still the oppressor and these good deeds are merely efforts to obscure that evil fact. That is why lesbian leftists at the “Dyke March” in Chicago banned rainbow flags with the Jewish star – even though Israel is the only country in the Middle East where a gay pride parade can be held. They see Israel’s acceptance of gays as “pinkwashing” – a fig leaf provided by one victim group to cover up its crimes against another. The left even has a term for this: “intersectionality.”

The only way to counter such malicious attacks is to brand the campus allies of Hamas for what they are: supporters of genocidal lies and a terrorist war to obliterate the state of Israel and kill its Jews. These American allies of Hamas terrorism include Students for Justice in Palestine, the Muslim Students Association, Jewish Voice for Peace, and assorted leftwing groups who support them.

Students for Justice in Palestine, the leader of this anti-Israel, pro-Hamas coalition was founded in 2001 by Hatem Bazian, a Fatah activist at the time. He created it as an ancillary support for the suicide bombing Second Intifada, launched in that year. The chief funder of SJP and orchestrator of its campaigns is a well-established Hamas front, American Muslims for Palestine. Hatem Bazian is the chairman of the AMP board. Since Hamas is a terrorist organization, Students for Justice in Palestine and its campus coalition are clearly instruments of its terrorist campaigns. They do not themselves plant bombs but they support the terrorists who do and spread their political propaganda, much the way the Irish political party Sinn Fein was a working partner of the terrorist Irish Republican Army.

Stigmatizing the campus supporters of terrorists would effectively neutralize the attacks on Israel. It would provide the basis for a campaign to pressure American universities to withdraw their recognition and funding from these groups. It would discredit the lies that fuel their campus campaigns and inspire the anti-Semitic attacks that have reached epidemic proportions.

The David Horowitz Freedom Center has conducted campaigns that employ this branding principle for ten years at over 100 campuses. But ours has been a lonely voice. At virtually every campus where we have organized events, our efforts have been undermined by Hillel and Students for Israel groups who smear us as “Islamophobic” and “racist,” though we are neither, and who come to the defense of Students for Justice in Palestine as though they were victims and not aggressors. In other words, these Jewish groups prefer to join hands with an organization supporting a genocidal war against Jews, in condemning (in my case) a Jew who doesn’t mince words in opposing our enemies. If Hillel and groups that care about Israel’s survival would instead turn their guns around and brand Israel’s enemies for what they are, the tide of anti-Semitic hatred on campus would begin to reverse itself, and support for the Jewish state would surely grow.

The obvious message? 'These are the people we're looking for, whites need not apply: we don't need you, don't want you, we have “more than enough of you already.”

This is almost the exact same area where the New York City Department of Education posted an unashamedly racist hiring poster with the directive: “Give our students what they need to succeed - a teacher who LOOKS LIKE THEM - Teach!,” along with a young, hip, black - book in hand - his wisdom in chalk behind him - and most importantly, dreadlocks down to his waist.

That poster was gone within 2 weeks.

The public education system has been so thoroughly ethnically cleansed - especially among top staff at almost every school in the city, and among district superintendents - that the urgency to get rid of the whites that remain is no longer that urgent.

The FDNY is another story. Full-out war has been waged on it for the last decade, starting with the court-ordered dumbing-down of the entrance exam - along with “awarded damages” to those who failed an already simple test.

With each passing year, a lower level of fitness, intelligence, and competence has been codified into the admissions process.

The greatest Fire Department in the world - a family, legacy job passed on through generations, with the highest levels of commitment - is being chiseled down to the mush that is today accepted as the norm for the NYPD: see the Youtube videos of two 5' 2," 200-lb. female “police officers” - shaped like beach balls - trying to chase and collar gangbangers in the Bronx, all the while being laughed at by the perps and their “community” cheering on their escape.

Apparently, even the requirement of proficiency in English - as a native language - is no longer deemed important: Look at the contact instructions at the bottom.

A ladder company, a firehouse, operated as a single, cohesive unit for decades, over a century - and fought fires in the same way - your life, that of your partner - depended on it.

If people have to die - because this new diverse crop doesn't much give a [bleep] about speaking English or talking to the Irishman whose back they are responsible for protecting - so be it: at least the department has been made “fully diverse.”

NEW YORK (AP) -- The reporter who accused White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders of inflaming the public against the media at a press briefing says he did it because he's tired of being bullied by the administration.

Brian Karem, an editor at the Washington-area Sentinel newspapers, became an instant symbol in the tense relationship between the president and journalists when he interrupted Sanders on Tuesday. Given the nation's wide political divide, it took little searching to find depictions of him as either a hero or crying baby on social media.

"There's a time and a place for everything and the time has come to stand up and be counted," Karem told The Associated Press on Wednesday. "I'm tired of taking it. I want friendly relationships, but those who want respect, show respect. We have shown that man and shown the administration respect for six months, and all we're getting in return is a lack of respect, derision and bullying."

Karem, 56, is not a representative of the large national media organizations repeatedly described as "fake news" by the president.
Besides his editing, he writes for Playboy, where his first-person account of the confrontation was posted late Tuesday. He was jailed as a Texas television reporter in 1990 for refusing to identify sources in a crime story.

The administration's own anger with the media is close to the surface, with the president tweeting Tuesday about a CNN story on Russian connections that was retracted last week, and on Wednesday about The New York Times' coverage of the stalled health bill. Sanders opened Tuesday's briefing by calling on a reporter from the conservative Breitbart News, who asked about the CNN story, and she expressed frustration with media coverage.

"If we make the slightest mistake, the slightest word is off, it is just an absolute tirade from a lot of people in this room," Sanders said. "But news outlets get to go on, day after day, and cite unnamed sources, use stories without sources."

That's where Karem broke in.

"Come on!" he said. "You're inflaming everybody right here, right now with those words." He said that Sanders is there to answer questions "and what you did is inflammatory to people all over the country who look at it and say, 'See, once again, the president's right and everybody else out here is fake media.' And everybody in this room is only trying to do their job."

Sanders said that "if anything has been inflamed, it's the dishonesty that often takes place by the news media and I think it is outrageous for you to accuse me of inflaming a story when I was simply trying to respond to his question."

The White House has been holding fewer on-camera briefings lately, and the press has been pushing for more. With that backdrop, it felt like the chief purpose of Tuesday's on-camera session was to browbeat the press, Karem said.

Karem, who was not at the White House on Wednesday, said he hasn't heard from the administration about the exchange and doesn't know if there will be repercussions. Sanders did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

While Karem said he'd received expressions of support from some fellow reporters, not all sympathetic observers like to see frustration boil over. Liberal former talk show host Phil Donahue, on MSNBC Wednesday, said reporters should stay above the fray.

"I don't think the press should get in the mosh pit," he said. "I think they have to be big boys and girls and take the hits.

"The best way to handle this is to just keep working," Donahue said. "Don't be so sensitive. Don't look like you have a glass jaw ... I think the press has to be above that."

Karem said he always taught his children that the best way to handle bullies is to try and make friends with them and, failing that, punch back so they know you won't take their guff. Since it's a potent issue for Trump's supporters, he doesn't expect the administration's attitude toward the media will change.

"You think it's going to go away?" he said. "It's not. But I'm not going gently into the good night. I'm not going to sit there and be told that I'm the enemy of the people and that I'm fake news."

CNN Operative Jim Acosta Lies about Presidential “Tapes”

Last night, on Anderson Cooper 360, activist Acosta lied to Cooper, telling him of the President, “Those tapes that he talked about having.”

(I watched a repeat of the episode, at 12:00 midnight, today.)

President Trump never “talked about having any tapes.” He bluffed James Comey, who had committed numerous felonies, in supporting the putsch against President Trump, crime about which neither Jim Acosta, nor his fellow CNN activists have ever to my knowledge mentioned.

I have heard several people on CNN’s payroll repeat this lie on the air in recent weeks.

Here’s Trump’s tweet on the matter, which is what Acosta was referring to:

A little context: I have treated Jim Acosta better than just about everyone else, among non-seditious, non-treasonous observers and journalists. When patriots condemned him for aggressively trying to get President Trump to answer his questions at the famous, January 11 press conference in which the President refused to answer him, telling Acosta, “You are fake news,” I did not join the anti-Acosta chorus. I knew, as a journalist, that one has to be aggressive and obnoxious, in order to get the job done.

This morning’s Baltimore Sun includes a report about Maryland law enforcement closing the offices of “pain doctor” Kofi Shaw-Taylor. He’s been prescribing dangerous pain killers, etc. But try to find a photo of him. Turns out his medical degree is from the University of Ghana. I assume he is one of these “brightest” foreigners welcomed to the USSA (Union of Soviet States of America) on special immigrant visa. Maybe Kofi married an American. He may turn out to be another case study of what is wrong with immigration policies.

According to an emergency order from the state Board of Physicians suspending the medical license of Dr. Kofi Shaw-Taylor, he gave "excessively high" amounts of opioid painkillers to some patients, while prescribing others both opioids and drugs to curb opioid addiction at the same time.

The order said Shaw-Taylor, trained as a surgeon specializing in urology, didn't examine some patients but left prescriptions for them at his North Baltimore practice. The order also said he prescribed opioid painkillers to patients even if they tested positive for illicit drugs and gave prescriptions to patients after another doctor practicing in the office declined to.

Up to 70 patients a day could be waiting to see the doctor, who did not keep regular hours or proper records, the order said.

Shaw-Taylor "does not follow standards for practicing pain management and is professionally incompetent in regard to his pain management practices, especially his prescribing of opioids," reads the order signed May 9 and recently made available on the board website. The civil trial began June 5th and ABC legal executives must have see [sic] the writing on the wall as the initial $1.9 billion in damages could have potentially tripled under South Dakota law (treble damages) to $5.7 billion if they allowed the three week trial to continue.

The actual defamation settlement is undisclosed. However, at the point of settlement all reasonable assumptions must be that BPI was well positioned to win far more than the initially demanded settlement amount of $1.9 billion.

(Reuters) – The U.S. ABC television network, owned by Walt Disney Co , has settled its closely watched defamation lawsuit with Beef Products Inc over news reports on a processed beef product that critics dubbed “pink slime,” both companies said on Wednesday.

Terms of the settlement, which also covered the Beef Products Inc (BPI) claims against ABC reporter Jim Avila, were not disclosed.

Privately-held BPI had claimed that the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) and Avila defamed the company by calling its processed beef product “pink slime” and making errors and omissions in a series of 2012 reports. BPI calls the product “lean finely textured beef.”

BPI attorney Dan Webb told Reuters the settlement came together “quickly this week,” but declined to provide details, citing a confidentiality agreement signed by both parties.

The settlement came 3-1/2 weeks after the trial in the case got under way in Elk Point, South Dakota, around 25 miles (40 km) northwest of Sioux City, Iowa. BPI is based in nearby Dakota Dunes, South Dakota. (read more)

The real ‘pink slime’ agenda

It’s not enough for Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer that the city schools are jumping on the latest elite food fad by dropping “pink slime”: He wants them on the bandwagon now.

Let’s be clear: The meat product known as “lean finely textured beef” does look gross. But so does just about every meat product — ever seen how they make pastrami? And this stuff is perfectly safe, and almost certainly healthier than its likely replacement.

The US Department of Agriculture goes to great lengths to ensure that the national school-lunch program serves appropriate food to America’s kids. And its scientists have been unambiguous: This meat product is perfectly fine.

But activist celebrity chef Jamie Oliver decided to make a stink about it, and “right-thinking” people have rushed to go along.

City Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott acknowledges the feds say the meat is safe, but he lobbied them into letting him ban it anyway. It’s off the menu by September.

[N.S.: Note that lefties like Dennis Walcott never complained about Michelle “Obama’s” inedible school lunches, which kids routinely dumped.]

That’s not fast enough for Stringer, who’s grandstanding for an immediate ban. He calls it “garbage,” as if there’s actually something wrong with it, other than the gross “pink slime” moniker.

Funny, it wasn’t so long ago that food activists claimed they wanted our food to be more “sustainable.” Yet this stuff is an innovative model of sustainable agriculture: It’s made with a process that safely uses parts of the animal that previously had been either discarded, or used for lower-value uses, such as animal food. And since the fat is melted out of the meat before it’s mixed into other ground beef, “pink slime” actually yields lower-fat meals.

It’s also safe: It’s treated to make it inhospitable to dangerous E. Coli bacteria. And the main company that makes it, Beef Products International, tests the meat more than USDA’s already strict regulations require. That’s more than can be said about the different ground-up cow that’s likely to replace it.

It’s been used for years by schools, leading fast-food outlets and major supermarket chains. And if it didn’t taste good, kids would have voted with their stomachs long ago.

Why waste scare [sic] dollars to switch to more expensive, higher-fat alternatives?

The real (and ridiculous) agenda here is to make us all go organic. According to food activist MicheleSimon, “Pink slime is just one of many problems with industrialized meat. So let’s hope this week’s groundswell of interest in pink slime inspires Americans to demand labeling, buy organic or stop eating ground beef all together.”

And Mark Bittman in The New York Times calls the “pink menace” a symptom of a larger disease — “the industrial production of livestock on a scale that’s far too large to sustain without significant collateral damage.”

These people only want us eating grass-fed free-range cattle, if we eat any meat at all. Scott Stringer may be able to afford that diet, but it’s pathetic for politicians to kowtow to dishonest elitists.

In the recent video footage obtained by Project Veritas, John Bonifield a Sr. Producer at CNN, admits to several beliefs that are in direct conflict with the official CNN narrative that Trump has colluded with Russia, and that Russia has interfered with the 2016 election. Bonifield expresses clear doubts that there is a fire behind the Russia smoke, stating, “I haven’t seen any good enough evidence to show that the President committed a crime.” He also confirms suspicions that CNN staff is ideologically biased against Trump, stating, “I know a lot of people don’t like him and they’d like to see him get kicked out of office…”

Bonifield even further confirms CNN’s bias against the President, stating, “I think the President is probably right to say, like, look you are witch hunting me...you have no real proof.”

Bonifield exposes that Russia has been great for CNN’s ratings, and that orders from CEO Jeff Zucker himself have directed CNN to pursue Russia leads at the expense of other stories. Bonifield states “And the CEO of CNN said in our internal meeting, he said ‘good job everybody covering the Climate Accords, but we’re done with it let’s get back to Russia.’”

He further comments on Russia, “it’s mostly bullshit right now. Like, we don’t have any giant proof...if it was something really good, it’d leak.”

Yet another example of how the truth is held hostage to political correctness. John McEnroe has publicly stated that the Williams sisters would only rank around 700 in men's rankings. He did say that the ranking estimate could be vary but his point is well taken. Reality is that women can't compete with men in sports on an equal level. He simply stated the truth, and nowhere does he “mock” them , as the headline in this USA Today article states.

Now some people are "demanding" an apology but McEnroe is proving he's not just another mangina and refusing. Hope he sticks to his guns.

The Williams sisters did have a battle of the sexes in 1998 with Karsten Braasch, a German player ranked 203 in the world. He defeated them both 6-1 and 6-2. Observers at the scene noted how Braasch “took it easy” on them.

Now, the sisters were 17 and 18 years old at the time, but Venus was already ranked in the top 10 women, and Braasch was over 30. Andre Agassi and Bjorn Borg were essentially top 10 players at 18, and a player like Braasch would have had little chance against them at that age. It was unlikely Braasch could dominate any top-ranked male player, even if the latter were 18 years old. That gives you an idea of just how big the physical gap between men and women is. Just don't tell that to the PC gender fanatics who would have you believe there is no difference between men and women physically.

For those that still might argue the sisters got better as players, keep in mind that women mature faster than men physically, and by the time they hit 17 or 18 or so they have reached their peak of full development, while men still have an upward curve, due to their longer maturation rate and ability to build muscle quickly. Serena and Venus may have gotten more skillful as they aged but they wouldn't get any faster and any significant muscle growth would only be due to unnatural means. Their skills wouldn't be much help when a much stronger and faster man whips a tennis ball at them at a speed they simply can't react to.

By the way, after being beaten by Braasch, the sisters revised their challenge from: We could beat any guy over the 200 ranking group to any guy over 350. Personally, I doubt they could even break into the men's rankings, though they could probably compete at the junior college level.

When I hear things like this I always consider my own experiences playing against women in basketball. Occasionally, college-level players would make appearances on the courts where I played, even though I am only a somewhat above average gym rat ball player (though pretty good athletically) and 5' 10," 150 lbs. I could easily physically dominate every female I faced off against.

Regarding what McEnroe said, Serena Williams has no “privacy” to violate. She’s a public figure, and he can say what he likes. Even if she were not a public figure, but played sat a tennis court, and McEnroe saw her play and opined about her abilities, she would still have no “privacy” rights.

Translation: It’s a black thing. Like about 90% of blacks, Serena Williams believes that she can stick her nose in white folks’ business as a matter of whim, and they have nothing to say about it (i.e., they have no privacy), but that they must follow her orders.

Besides, as The Guardian’s Tom Lutz noted yesterday (idem), in 2013 Williams acknowledged how much better men are than women at tennis.

Williams has spoken on the subject in the past. In 2013, the American said she would lose to the current world No1, Britain’s Andy Murray, in “five to six minutes”.

“For me, men’s tennis and women’s tennis are completely, almost, two separate sports,” Williams said. “If I were to play Andy Murray, I would lose 6-0, 6-0 in five to six minutes, maybe 10 minutes. No, it’s true. It’s a completely different sport. The men are a lot faster and they serve harder, they hit harder, it’s just a different game. I love to play women’s tennis. I only want to play girls, because I don’t want to be embarrassed.”

So what’s with this “privacy” crap? Like I said, it’s a black thing, just like blacks saying that something that was o.k. five minutes ago, is now “racist,” or that something’s fine when blacks say or do it, but “racist” when a white says or does it.

During the 1970s, someone came up with a schema (or popularized an earlier one) of three “worlds”: The “First,” “Second,” and “Third” Worlds.

The First World comprised the nations of affluence, law, high trust, stability and peace. Most such nations were white, and were led by America; the most prominent exception, racially, was Japan.

The Second World comprised the nations of Communism, which were characterized by totalitarian state power, lawlessness, poverty, low trust, instability, war and genocide.

Third World nations comprised the rest of the world, nations that were non-white and forever poor, in which the law was unreliable and corrupt, in which government officials (including police) routinely extorted bribes out of citizens for even the most basic services, in which criminals often ran rampant, in which trust was non-existent, and one made one’s way through tribal allegiances based on clan, religion, ethnicity, and gangs.

Marxists replaced the notions of the First and Third Worlds with those of “developed” and “underdeveloped” nations.

They promoted the notion that the First World had gotten rich simply through plundering the Third World, and forcibly kept the Third World from developing. After all, since the Third World was just as smart and virtuous, or even moreso than the First World, there was no other explanation for why the one world should be rich, while the other lagged so far behind.

The Marxists banned the facts that explained the inequality—the much higher intelligence and virtue quotients of the First World and the Third—as “racist.”

I maintain that there is now a Fourth World. It contains much of the former “First World,” whose nations have deliberately been corrupted by importing hundreds of millions of non-whites who are incredibly stupid, violent, corrupt, criminal, lazy, and above all, racist. They hate the white nations (Japan and Singapore have so far stoutly held off the deluge), that they ruthlessly plunder, while ignoring or denying that they are killing the goose that laid the golden eggs.

The Fourth World is the worst of all worlds. Whereas in the Second World, seditionists and traitors are executed posthaste, here they are treated like heroes, and productive, white citizens are robbed by the government, and their hard-earned assets given to the bad guys. Instead of evildoers being held up as cautionary tales and publicly vilified, they are turned into heroes, and enriched. In recent days, for instance, the criminal, racist parents of racist, would-be cop-killer Mike Brown were rewarded with $1.5 million by the city of Ferguson, Missouri. There is on paper a system of Anglo-Saxon-based laws, but in practice, there is a system of the rule of men, not laws. And entire branches of the economy such as the schools and higher education, instead of producing and disseminating knowledge, are run by criminals who do nothing but lie, in defaming good people and America’s history, promoting hoaxes, violence and mayhem, and stealing from those whom they defame.

“Democracy has been suspended here”: Where? Who Said It?

That was foreign media activist Phil Gunson to Duranty-Blair laureate Jim Sciutto on CNN at around 5 p.m. today, about Venezuela.

Gunson said that the Venezuelan prisons are “hellholes,” with the torture of prisoners. He quoted one woman as saying that she’d kill herself, before she’d go back to a Venezuelan prison.

In other words, they’re not the felons’ paradises that American.

Gunson gave no context to the woman’s hyperbole. What had she been in for? In how much danger was she of being sent back?

All over the world, women get huge affirmative action advantages in the criminal law, in practice, such that they practically have to commit genocide, before being sent to prison.

Sciutto: “Do the demonstrators have any chance of bringing down this government?”

I couldn’t hear Gunson’s response, but why would that be Sciutto’s automatic question? Haven’t we already seen this picture, in the Mideast. It was called the “Arab Spring.”

Democracy hasn’t been “suspended” in Venezuela, because it either never existed (in the form Americans mean), or it did so a long ago.

There was no “democracy” under dictator Hugo Chavez, but CNN didn’t talk about it being “suspended,” or ask how he could be brought down. Ah, but prisoners are being “tortured.”

I guarantee you that Chavez treated prisoners as badly or worse than the present regime does.

Although it's not a Film Noir Sunday special, TCM is showing the original, 1946 version of The Postman Always Rings Twice, with John Garfield and Lana Turner at 12:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, June 27.
 

 

It took several years to film the story due to concerns about the material being taboo, Production Code-wise. After Billy Wilder's Double Indemnity (1944) which was also based on a James M. Cain novel with a similar plot line, it was decided to go ahead with The Postman.

Lana Turner is always dressed in white and her legs are shown frequently. A possible false note? Turner is too gorgeous to be married to a dumpy guy 30 years older than her.

 

 

 

N.S.: I saw the re-make with Jessica Lange and Jack Nicholson about 35 years ago, in West Germany. The husband was a paunchy, middle-aged Greek in that version. But if Cora was white trash, the Greek having a successful diner would have made him rich as Croesus in her eyes.

Georgia’s 6th District was significant because it’s a traditionally Republican district whose college-educated voters (59 percent of adults, sixth-highest in the country) were repelled by Donald Trump. Mitt Romney carried it 61 to 37 percent in 2012; Trump won it by only a 48.3-46.8 percent margin last year. That’s a huge shift from the persistent partisan patterns that have mostly held for two decades.

President Romney carried the district bigly, while private citizen Trump only won it narrowly.

Wait what?

In a related note, I’ve been pointing you to various precinct-by-precinct maps produced and curated by one Ryne Rohla. Not long ago, he put up the Missouri-specific map, but has not yet put together a 16-delta-12 map for Missouri. As you can see, he does have a 16-delta-12 map for the whole country, which one can click to enlarge. And, in our area, you can see that the most notable and acute red-to-blue swing was in and close to the Highway 40 corridor and Olive corridor from the city limits on through to Chesterfield. That confirms the national trend, again as you can see on the national 16-delta-12 map that upper middle to upper income suburbs of major cities swung very noticeably from Republican/Romney in 2012 to Democrat/Hillary in 2016.

Which certainly served President Romney and President Rodham well.

Wait what?

Also remember my snarky post from back in December about this matter. Putting this all together, we can now yield some object lessons:

(1) There are two main reasons why we hear what is really irrelevant noise about suburban higher income college educated Republican leaning white voters: (A) Socially, to use them as a fulcrum to make fun of downscale Trump voters, and (B) Because of what I wrote back in December, see that post’s comments, that Conservatism Inc think tanks and consulting firms heavily rely on donations from suburban higher income college educated Republican leaning white voters who swung heavily from red in ’12 to blue in ’16. Of course the people that think and write for such institutions will try to contend that the people writing them checks are still politically relevant and still politically matter.

(2) In spite of that, suburban higher income college educated Republican leaning white voters really don’t matter. Romney won them by landslide margins but finished south of 270, while Trump only carried them slightly and finished north of 270. Which means that even an unwarshed normie can look at this and conclude that there is a necessary trade-off between around 20% of suburban higher income college educated Republican leaning white voters on the one hand, and winning on the other hand. In the local context, the fact that the 40 and Olive corridors through St. Louis County is dark blue on Ryne’s 16-delta-12 really hurt Trump, as it meant the difference between Romney winning Missouri by 9 and Trump winning Missouri by 18. Nationally, Trump lost a fair percentage of that demographic around many big cities, but his consolation prize was Iowa, Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, the latter three were last red during the Reagan Presidency.

The victory of Republican Karen Handel in the special election in Georgia's 6th Congressional District on Tuesday has discouraged Democrats and encouraged Republicans. Democrat Jon Ossoff won 48.1 percent in the special election's first round April 18, and Democrats had high hopes that they could take this House seat from the Republicans.

But even with $30 million spent -- in what became the most expensive House race ever -- and with a turnout of 260,000 (more than the 210,000 who voted in the 2014 midterm), Ossoff won exactly 48.1 percent again. Not quite enough.

Georgia's 6th District was significant because it's a traditionally Republican district whose college-educated voters (59 percent of adults, sixth-highest in the country) were repelled by Donald Trump. Mitt Romney carried it 61 to 37 percent in 2012; Trump won it by only a 48.3-46.8 percent margin last year. That's a huge shift from the persistent partisan patterns that have mostly held for two decades.

The good news for Democrats is that they were able to hold Handel to a Trumpish rather than the traditionally expected margin in such a district. The bad news is that there aren't that many other Republican-held districts with a lot of highly educated voters.

Republicans hold only six of the 23 districts with college graduate majorities. Most were won years ago by Democrats in elections in which the persistent partisan patterns held true. Of the Republican-held districts where 40 percent or more of the voters are college graduates, only 14 were carried by Hillary Clinton last year.

These 14 seats -- plus the four more that Trump carried by less than 5 percent -- are obvious Democratic targets, and the result in Georgia suggests that Democrats could be competitive in many of them. But Democrats need a net gain of 24 seats for a House majority, and in good years, parties usually gain only half the seats they seriously target.

Moreover, Republican incumbents won 15 of these 18 seats by double-digit margins in 2016 despite the local Trump undertow. Most or all are running again, and though Democrats may try to field stronger opponents against many, the Georgia result won't help recruitment.

There's a contrast between the special election in Georgia's 6th District and the three other special elections in districts with far lower percentages of college graduates (23 to 31 percent) -- Kansas's 4th District, Montana's at-large district and South Carolina's 5th District. Trump carried all three by wider margins than Romney, but in each, Republicans failed to match his showing and won with results reverting toward or falling below the levels of the persistent partisan pattern.

This is often the pattern in special elections, wherein you can cast a protest vote without affecting the balance of partisan power much. And it's especially true when, as in these examples, no one expects the incumbent party's candidate to lose. That was the case Tuesday in South Carolina's 5th District, where 87,000 voted -- one-third the turnout in Georgia's 6th District.

In off-year congressional elections, the dynamics are different. Incumbents enter with an edge and often without serious opposition. You can't cast a protest vote without risking a change in party control, a risk that seems likely to be palpable in 2018.

And the old maxim that increased turnout helps Democrats may not hold. It didn't in Georgia's 6th District, where highly educated Republicans, perhaps unnerved by last week's baseball shooting and constant talk of impeachment, turned out in the rain. Higher turnout would probably have helped Republicans in the other three special elections, too.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi presumably realizes this when she cautions fellow Democrats, as she did in 2006, not to frame the election as a referendum on impeachment. Why squander the votes of those who want to check the president but not oust him (or hold a pointless Senate trial)?

In Politico, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel advises Democrats to do what he did, as House campaign chairman, in 2006: Recruit candidates with local roots and views suited to local terrain -- and with sharp political instincts, which both parties' candidates seemed to lack in the special elections.

My impression is that none of the Democrats (except maybe Archie Parnell in South Carolina's 5th District) had the political skills and local appeal that enabled so many Democrats to win Republican-leaning seats in the 1970s and hold them in the 1980s. And none of the Republicans showed the political skills and enthusiasm of many Newt Gingrich followers in the 1990s or tea partyers in the 2010s.

In 2016, Trump carried 230 House districts, and House Republicans won 242 seats. To win a House majority, Democrats need Trumpish results in high-education districts and improvements in downscale areas on the persistent partisan patterns along which voters of all education levels make their choices. It's possible, but it's an uphill climb -- a little more so since Tuesday.

Reagan and the Democrat congress compromised. They both wanted more spending, each for their own reasons, so they got both. They still had to pick and choose. Caspar Weinberger had some tough calls to make. One proposal was to refit and modernize the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany (now sunk off Florida as an artificial reef). This would have cost some $850 million, back then, and she would still not have been able to operate F/A-18 Hornets. It wasn't worth it, as the F-8 Crusader was already gone, and the A-4 Skyhawk going the same way. The Des Moines class cruisers were considered for refitting, but they didn't have the midships deck space for a heavy missile battery, quite unlike the Iowa class battleships, which were refitted, and proved quite useful.

The economic boom that resulted from lower taxes seems to have helped, though the effects took some time. We had a recession in Colorado in the early 1980s, in part due to the oil shale bust hurting the banking industry. Parts of downtown Denver looked like a ghost town. The real-estate bust hurt us 20 years later; the US-36 corridor between Denver and Boulder had plenty of new, unoccupied business space, and strip malls in Colorado Springs became vacant.

Part of what happened here was merely hideous business decisions. CVS bought out Long's Drug. I could get stuff at Long's I couldn't find anywhere else in Colorado, like packaged wonton soup and Nalley's canned chile.They closed every store here down, renamed them in California, and only kept the original name in Hawaii, due to name recognition. There was one about a mile from here.

Egghead Software did something similar. The big-shots decided they needed to close so many stores, and that number exactly matched the ones we had in Colorado, so they closed them all. There was one about a mile from here, just north off Academy from what used to be Long's Drug. That building is still empty. It's not in good shape anymore, so I reckon it's an eventual scrape-off.

K-Mart is gone from the Chapel Hills Mall. That's an anchor store. It was, anyway. Borders Books shut down nationwide, so that's also gone from Chapel Hills. I'm almost never there anymore. I suspect Sears and Target are circling the drain. When I needed a replacement drive belt for a vacuum cleaner, Sears didn't carry them anymore, so I had to mail-order them from Amazon. I got a package of 10, so I don't think even my daughter will run out. I even had to wait 30 minutes at Sears before anyone could answer my questions. I could have saved a drive and some time doing it online first thing. The hell with those people, if that's their business model.

The last time I was at Home Despot (spelling deliberate), I got repeatedly waved off by someone on the telephone. I screamed at the top of my leather lungs, "I'll drive the f*****g f**k home and call you then, or maybe I'll just mail-order it from Harbor Freight." I'm not at a store to wait while some punk is on the telephone. If I am physically there, I take priority over anyone on the phone, because I will otherwise leave right away. It turns out that I have policies, too. If I am physically in the store and want to spend money there, the bastards on the telephone can wait.

Yes, I am a curmudgeon. I highly recommend it.

We're in a situation where, while there are obviously retailers other than these three, the American retail sector is down to three real superpowers, the sort of which the sector catches cold if any one of them sneezes: Amazon, Wal-Mart and Aldi. And each one of them thinks of the other two as its sworn mortal enemy.

I know Sears/K-Mart is definitely circling the drain. Target is on some down times, but there will always be room for a national big box presence not named Wal-Mart just to provide an alternate to Wal-Mart. But, Wal-Mart seems like it's going to rule the roost in the mainstream big-box retail space for a long time, just as Amazon will do for online and Aldi for inferior goods (economics definition, not moral definition) for foodstuffs and sundries.

Several weeks ago, at one of the many evening networking get-togethers and parties that I'm obliged to attend, I heard one degree of separation gossip that clued me into this kind of thing. Someone at the get-together had just recently been to another when he was in earshot of some regional mid-level managerial munchkin for Wal-Mart, who was fuming about something that was overlooked about St. Louis's newest Wal-Mart location (in the Kenrick Seminary area, for those of you that know) -- The mangler said something along the lines of: "We wound up putting our new store next to a f**king Aldi."

Supreme Court revives parts of Trump travel ban order, agrees to hear case

WASHINGTON, June 26 (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday handed a victory to President Donald Trump by allowing his temporary bans on travelers from six Muslim-majority countries and all refugees to go into effect for people with no connection to the United States while agreeing to hear his appeals in the closely watched legal fight.

The court, which narrowed the scope of lower court rulings that had completely blocked his March 6 executive order, said it would hear arguments on the legality of one of Trump's signature policies in his first months as president in the court's next term, which starts in October.

The justices granted parts of his administration's emergency request to put the order into effect immediately while the legal battle continues.

The court said that the travel ban will go into effect "with respect to foreign nationals who lack any bona fide relationship with a person or entity in the United States."

The Supreme Court left the lower-court injunctions against the ban in place, but only with respect to the challengers to the ban themselves and others in similar circumstances, meaning they involve people in the United States who have relationships with foreign nationals abroad and whose rights might be affected if those foreigners were excluded from entry.

But the court said the injunctions were too broad to also include barring enforcement of the ban against foreigners who have no connection to the United States at all. "Denying entry to such a foreign national does not burden any American party by reason of that party's relationship with the foreign national," the court said.

The court also said it would allow a 120-day ban on all refugees entering the United States to go into effect on the same grounds, allowing the government to exclude from the United States refugee claimants who do not have any "bona fide relationship" with an American individual or entity.

Three of the court's conservatives said they would have granted Trump's request in full, including Trump appointee Neil Gorsuch.

The case is Trump's first major challenge at the Supreme Court, where he restored a 5-4 conservative majority with the appointment of Gorsuch, who joined the bench in April. There are five Republican appointees on the court and four Democratic appointees.

The March 6 order called for a 90-day ban on travelers from Libya, Iran, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen and a 120-day ban on all refugees entering the United States to enable the government to implement stronger vetting procedures. It was blocked by federal judges before going into effect on March 16 as planned.

Trump issued the order amid rising international concern about attacks carried out by Islamist militants like those in Paris, London, Brussels, Berlin and other cities. But critics have called the order a mean-spirited, intolerant and un-American "Muslim ban."

The state of Hawaii and a group of plaintiffs in Maryland represented by the American Civil Liberties Union argued that the order violated federal immigration law and the Constitution's First Amendment prohibition on the government favoring or disfavoring any particular religion. Regional federal appeals courts in Virginia and California both upheld district judge injunctions blocking the order.

Trump signed the order as a replacement for a Jan. 27 order issued a week after he became president that also was blocked by federal courts. The revised order was intended to overcome the legal issues posed by the original ban, which also included Iraq among the nations targeted and a full ban on refugees from Syria. The revised order also jettisoned language that gave preferential status to persecuted religious minorities, which critics said could be taken as favoring Christians and other religious groups over Muslims.

Trump has called the March order a "watered down, politically correct" version of the January one. But the order still embodied his "America First" nationalist message and reflected his views of the dangers posed to the United States by certain immigrants and visitors.

The administration has said the travel ban is needed to allow time to implement stronger vetting measures, although it has already rolled out some new requirements not blocked by courts, including additional questions for visa applicants.
