SUNNYVALE — A hidden camera found in the bathroom of a Sunnyvale dentist's office led to the arrest of the dentist for allegedly capturing video of several victims, including children while using the restroom, according to authorities.

Zaid Yousif Sharma, a dentist working out of an office at 877 West Fremont Avenue, was arrested on suspicion of child pornography possession and peeping on Wednesday after a search warrant was executed in his office and his Santa Clara home, a news release from Sunnyvale police announced Friday.

The investigation began after a victim discovered the camera in the restroom located in Sharma's office on July 26. The victim took the camera to Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, according to the department, and police discovered videos of additional videos of victims — including videos of two minors.

Sharma was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose.
Police say the California Dental Board was notified of the incident. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Detective M. Hutchison with the Sunnyvale DPS at 408-730-7110.

The link to the dentist's web site has more information on his background, namely that he comes  from Jordan, has a "husband," and enjoys hairdressing and cosmetology.

Dr. Sharma comes from a background of Dentistry and Public Health. He was a dentist in Amman, Jordan since 2012 working as a general dentist with experience in multiple dental specialties.

He obtained his Master's in Public Health degree from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology and became the student ambassador for his class. He then attended and graduated from the International Dental Program at the Arthur Dugoni School of Dentistry with honors, being a member of "Tau Kappa Omega Honors Society", as well as obtaining the Quintessence Award in Periodontics.

Dr. Sharma is passionate about dentistry. He spends his free time taking in-person and online classes to advance his dental education and clinical skills. He is involved in local dental study clubs such as Hiossen, Arklign, and Glidewell education team. He is Invisalign certified and has extended his education to be certified in implant dentistry, as well as oral and perio surgery. He has worked in mobile dentistry clinics serving low income and homeless populations that are in high dental needs, as well as finding time to volunteer in multiple dental events, such as Give Kids a Smile, Senior Smiles, local dental society, CDA Cares and Dental/Addiction Recovery program with City Team organization.

Outside of Dentistry, Dr. Sharma likes to eat out with his husband and try different cultural cuisines and meet new people; as well as doing hairdressing and cosmetology as a hobby, as he was licensed abroad to do both.

Dr Sharma worked on my friend's teeth not long before he was arrested. This was at a different location instead of his regular office, back in July or August last year. When she went back a few weeks later, another dentist was taking over who had a difficult time getting it right. So I guess he was good. I feel bad for Dr Sharma. Maybe he can get a pardon from the Governor for writing the book on dental practise in correctional institutions.
