ELMONT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – Elmont Memorial High School was placed on lockdown Tuesday after a report of a suspicious person, possibly with a weapon, in the area, 1010 WINS’ Glenn Schuck reported.

The lockdown was put into effect around 8:15 a.m. after police received two reports of a suspicious man.

The school made “robo-calls” to alert parents of the situation.

Nassau County Police are guarding the entrance of school as a search of the area is conducted, Schuck reported. SWAT teams were also seen in front of the school building.

Police helicopters had searched the surrounding area by helicopter.

Some students arriving at the school were sent back home because of the lockdown.

One parent showed up at the school and told Schuck she has been in touch with her child. Her child told her the kids are huddled in corners of their rooms with the lights out, Schuck reported.

No injuries have been reported.
