NEW MEL BROOKS TWO PART INTERVIEW ON HBO:"THE 99 YEAR OLD MAN"
GRA:I don't subscribe to HBO,but it's a sit down with Judd Apatow interviewing Mel--and he's very lively yet--judging from the clip. Amazing.
(wall street journal)A former colleague used to talk about the time he was interviewing Mel Brooks in a hotel lobby when the elevator opened and an elegant figure walked out. “That woman married a Jew!” Mr. Brooks bellowed, pointing a finger. The woman was Anne Bancroft, his wife.
Jewishness, humor, Jewish humor, outrageously inappropriate humor and the radiant Bancroft are all essential to “Mel Brooks: The 99 Year Old Man!”—a documentary about a man who needs no hyphens, has few regrets and has been making people laugh for what seems like 99 years. The title of the two-part film, directed with enormous affection by Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio, alludes to the “2,000 Year Old Man,” a sketch first performed at cocktail parties by Mr. Brooks and his close friend Carl Reiner and which became the stuff of TV variety shows, records and deification among practitioners of comedy. It didn’t make Mr. Brooks rich. Which didn’t stop Bancroft from marrying him.
I am a dissident journalist, whose work has been published in dozens of daily newspapers, magazines, and journals in English, German, and Swedish, under my own name and many pseudonyms. While living in internal exile in New York, where I am whitelisted, I maintain NSU/The Wyatt Earp Journalism Bureau and some eight other blogs (some are distinctive but occasional venues, while others are mirrors), and also write for stout-hearted men such as Peter Brimelow and Jared Taylor.
