Why would they try to murder Donald Trump if he were losing?

Any political candidate's might can be measured by their opponents' fear of losing to them.  If the other side thinks you're going to win, then your campaign is going pretty well. Based on the past two-and-a-half months, it's clear that Donald Trump's opponents know he's going to win. Why else would they have tried to kill him twice? America hasn't seen anything like this in decades, and even though political violence has become bizarrely common, it's worth taking a step back to acknowledge just how sick the people perpetrating it are. There's nothing less "democratic" than killing off the race's front-runner. But they keep trying anyway.
